You can get oil and filters anywhere from Walmart to Autozone. As far as brands, Pennzoil, Mobile 1, Redline etc synthetic. As far as filters, run those designed for synthetic oil (Fram, Mobile 1, Royal Purple, Wix etc) as the bypass limit is much higher. The 5.7l uses 7 quarts and manufacturers interval is 7k miles. I still change mine about every 3k miles or so.

If you search this forum you will find many recommendations, 7qts. Just change them regularly.

Every engine is different what works for one person may not work for you. Honestly you may have to try a few combos to figure out what works best for your truck. I run Castrol Edge and a Puraltor Boss filter on mine. Going on almost 100k with that same combo.

Mopar oil filter + Penzoil Ultra Platinum Synth oil ...you can't go wrong.

PUP oil goes on sale quite often and it's not that exp when it does.
I use the same combo. I’ve tried valvoline and royal purple oils and the pennzoil seems to work best for my Hemi. Good luck

Mobil 1 oil filter has the best flow rates (oil pressure is the highest with this filter). BOSS is a great filter also but is only good for 8700 miles before the pressure starts dropping (I change the oil every 5,000 miles; experimented with changing the filter every other oil change). Apparently the MDS system produces a lot of carbon and load the oil filter faster. As for the oil, I run PUP and RGT but everyone seems to love Redline. Good luck.

Modern specs have made for uniform formulas, just a fact. Oils otc are just similar to each other in almost in every way. Pennzoil is popular because of gTl base oil and fca spec, thus it is number one here, cant go wrong. But you also cant go wrong with kirkland synthetic oil that carries the main specs but is gonna be cheaper and high moly to boot. People like redline because it is in fact different then the field, group 4/5 base oils super high ep/aw additives, you simply cannot find anything like that on the shelf, been proven to silence hemi tick, you can't go wrong with that either. You get to chose, the house brand = pennzoil, save some dollars kirkland, high additives and protection = redline, or something inbetween. Poor mans redline is addiing lubegard biotech to any otc oil, thus making the formula "similar" with redlines. One man's best is different from anothers, I say the same bets are to stay with the top 4 choices on the board in the polling, pennzoil, m1, amsoil, or redline. But I can't say any oil with modern specs wont be just as good with those oils that also carry those specs. Dexos is the main spec they are hunting, the highest standar, if you see the dexos label use with confidence.

Oil filters, look into spun microglass, fram ultra or royal purple gonna be top shelf, see oil filter thread first 20 pages and the last 20 pages, eye opening stuff.

If you see this on the bottle even if it is cheap, it is quality.

I second this, OEM filters are good and will save you with warranty, and Penzoil Platinum or ultra Platinum is good stuff and on sale semi-often. Plus you’ll need two large jugs to make the change on the 5.7L, have half of one jug left over so next change you only have to buy one new jug.

But get ready for 1,000 more posts and arguing what oil and/or filter is best or better lol … as soon as I read this OP I laughed a little (been there, done that … Groundhog Day lol)

For my 2006 5.7, I use Mopar oil filter and Pennzoil Synth oil . Even though my truck was low mileage when I bought it, there is always the concern over dropped valves, so I have the oil tested from time to time and the results have been very good. I normally change my oil every 3-3,500 miles, the original over changed every 7,000 miles. Either way take good care of it and you'll been fine.

You often here folks say "this oil and oil filter works best for me". Unless you run the engine for x-miles/hours, and do a complete tear-down and inspection, there's little chance of knowing what works best.
I drive a Ram 1500 and run AMSOIL! The “Major” reason I’ve moved to AMSOil is they are one oil producer that has stepped up to the plate and said they can fully meet or exceed Mopar’s Specifications for the engine, front and rear differentials, and the Borg Warner 44-45 Transfer Case and the 8HP70 8 Speed Transmission.
Do your homework when it come to oil filters. Talk to the oil producer and get their recommendations. WIX 57060XP and Royal Purple 10-48 are at the top of the heap....

I use Mobil 1 full synthetic and wix filters. I only change my oil when the idiot light goes off (every 10k miles for me). 101k miles so far without a single issue, engine runs smooth as the day I bought it.

Do you really, really care about your engine?? Do you really, really want it to last a long time?? Do you really, really want it to stay as clean as possible internally?? Do you really want to just do everything possible to avoid the dreaded Hemi Tick? If yes to any or all of those questions, you will buy the BEST oil and filter you can get! Spending too much time deciding takes time and is wasting money (time is money)!! Just get the BEST and stop thinking about the extra $4 or $5 per quart - consider your cool truck as your hobby!! People spend THOUSANDS of dollars on their hobbies without thinking too much. (SEVEN qts by the way on the 5.7 hemi) Do you really need the BEST?? Who knows, it's like insurance. You'll sleep better at night though, knowing that you bought the BEST, not the cheapest and if your engine runs smooth now, it should keep running smooth.
Anyways, my answer is Red Line 5w20 (or 5w30 if you want to be on the wild side!!) - I personally lean towards the 5w30, but I'm now in a warm climate year-round (and I am kind of wild). Just to be clear and fair, the User Manual for the last several years does specify 5w20 - but it's mainly for mpg/efficiency.
Oh yes, for filter, Fram Ultra or Royal Purple seem to be in the "Best Oil Filter for 5.7L Hemi" category.
So, done deal, stop wasting time thinking about oil and filters, enjoy life and your truck!
Or you can also read a gazillion (okay, a little exaggerated) pages of oil threads, and still not be sure what to use.
John
PS - Even though this might sound like an advertisement, it's not, it's just my excited opinion!!
