Why the short antennas?

I cut my stock antenna in half and painted it black. Removed the top ball and reattached on the cut antenna. Works fine, but I mainly use SXM anyways. Looks much better too

I thought about replacing it with a shorter one but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Not a big priority. The look of it really doesn't bother me. I usually listen to music using my memory stick. I have about 400 songs on there. I hate commercials so I don't listen to AM or FM unless my wife is with me. My music is a little too heavy for her taste. I stream Pandora sometimes but since I don't pay for a subscription I still have to deal with commercials. As for SXM for me it's a big waste of money, they have nothing I want to hear.

I like my short antenna. I hated the sound of the stock antenna hitting the door frame going through the car wash or it hitting the ladder hanging from my garage ceiling. I like the look of the shorter antenna. I haven't noticed any reception issues yet, but I also haven't gone on any road trips lately.

I've been driving trucks through car washes for decades and never had an issue with an antenna being damaged and have always had a stock antenna. I do have to tighten them up once in a while but never lost one or had any damage to one from a car wash.

I have not listened to AM/FM since 2007 when I purchased my Jeep GC Limited with the Nav / Sat system.
I haven’t listened since 1/9/06 when Howard stern left regular radio for Sirius. Now I just listen to the Music stations, and they are far superior to anything in the houston area. Rock stations in houston are nonexistent.

I had my OEM antenna get bent at a car wash... I got them to pay for a new OEM antenna. I also bought another OEM antenna and put it in the parts bin.

One one of the OEM antennas, I removed the ball and cut down and reattached the ball on. This is the antenna I use now, its about 6" long. I still remove it before going into car washes, since it has almost no flex now.

How did you reattach the ball on the antenna after cut it down?

It is just pressed on. I tried to press it on, if it didn't go on, I took my angle grinder and notched the edges where I cut, then tried again until it went on.

Almost Lazarus again lol….
I have a 50. Cal bullet antenna and don’t use the radio, satellite is the way to go or the cell!
Who makes the .50 cal antenna? Do you still have a link?

I just noticed my factory antenna is pointed to the right and the base is coming apart from the car wash. A .50 cal stubby sounds like a fantastic replacement.

Edit: God bless Amazon same day shipping. Got a Ronin Factory .50 cal stubby. I dig it.

Is there a special tool for tightening the lock ring for the factory antenna base? None of my castle nut wrenches work and the base is still jiggly.

Sorry I didn’t see the question, yes that’s where I grabbed mine from. You’ll notice if you out in the sticks, away from the city, radio will be minimal.

No worries. Yup, makes sense. I’m not expecting to get any reasonable reception with this antenna outside the valley here, but at least it looks cool and won’t get ravaged by the carwash lol.
