Looking at 5th gen ram longhorn edition. Might build my own. i have no preference of crew or quad cab, to be honest id get a reg cab short box if there was a 5th gen version. Every car ive owned ive installed a mid grade sub and amp. Not earth shattering but can definitely feel it And hear when i pull in the driveway yet the neighbors cant hear it. My question is

1. should i go with the standard factory stereo and add my own sub and amp or go with the premium factory setup with sub and leave it at that?

2. If i add my own sub n amp is there any more or less space in a quad cab vs crew cab to add a sub?

Can't answer question one but I can tell you that the longhorn is only available in crew cab. So that would take care of that decision for you.

If you have always gone aftermarket sub, dont stop now. You’ll miss it and notice the lack of bottom end.

I have a Laramie crew cab and am GLAD I got the H.Karman 17 speaker system-it gets loud and the placement of the speakers I would never be able to do-I do not think a radio shop could do what they did as they built it. Awesome job. Only thing is I lost the larger storage area under the back seat as they placed the subwoofer or bass speaker there. Having had to study the crew and quad-the quad is larger, has more room but LOOKS like a work truck with those large doors-about 4-5 inch difference from a crew to quad.

Think you have it backwards. A crew cab has more room than a quad cab unless you are talking about bed space.

I have a 22 Laramie crew cab with the Alpine 9 speaker and sub... I currently have an appointment with my local installed to disconnect the factory sub, and I am adding a SPL box made for the truck with 2 10" woofers and a mono amp to drive them. I didn't feel like the factory sub did nearly enough for the low end.

jeveretts When you add the 2 -10 inchers and a mono amp are you going to lose all your under seat storage? Are you going to use an after market speaker box? I installed an after market powered sub wolfer and lost half my storage. Don't want to lose anymore.

FYI, in my Quad cab there is little to no room under the rear seat, and what room there is , is weirdly shaped. So, unless you want to try an upright setup behind the seat, go with the crew cab.
