I just picked up my 2022 6.4 2500. Previous truck was the same only a 2018. First observations. The 8 speed transmission is light years different/better. Both trucks had 4:10s, but this one (even in 8th compared to 6th on the previous one) feels significantly lower in the gear ratio which is ideal for the gas engine. All the way through the ZF is a much better pairing for the 6.4. My only regrets at this point are forgetting to check the box for paint matched fender flares (which I can correct) and the cargo cam doesn't work on the 12" (sounds like an OTA update will eventually/hopefully fix it). I say hopefully because my 2018 8.4 had an issue or two uconnect never resolved. It seemed like every update would fix something and mess something else up. I wish they were better at keeping up with trucks already in customers hands and ironing out the bugs for good. This cargo cam issue was occurring months ago. I've read there is a fix but trucks are still rolling off the line with the bug.

The 8 speed is definitely a good match for the 6.4.

Oh yeah, the 8 speed is great with the 6.4. Came from a 2017 6 speed 6.4. My 1 ton 6.4 with 8 speed tows so much better.

Glad you like it.
I have a Laramie 2500 with 6.4 and 3.73's on order. It's built, just waiting on shipping.
Also 8.4 Nav screen.

I hope the 3.73's don't disappoint and that my truck's cargo camera will work.

Coming from a 2011 1500 soerra with 6.2L, 6 spd trans and 3.42's. If anything my new Ram should be a huge upgrade and infinitely better at pulling our 7500 lb camper.

Here it is, I love it! In response to the question about 3:73 vs 4:10. With the 6 speed it was imperative IMO. With this 8 speed, I would have no issue with the 3:73. I think it may actually be a better combo between fuel mileage and towing ease. Hope to get this cargo cam issue worked out. We tow a gooseneck and I don't want to have to keep jumping in and out like my last truck (no cargo cam on it).

I was very hesitant about the 8 speed trans before I bought my 2021 3500. But what a surprise how much I've come to like it! I thought it would be constantly shifting gears looking for the right gear but it seems to know the right gear every time! 8 speeds and the 4.10 gears and it's still hard for me to keep from breaking the rear tires loose, at 66 years old it's going to be hard to keep explaining it to the local police that I'm not some crazy hot roding kid and that it's the truck that keeps doing it!! lol

Go test drive a 8 speed. You will trade in your truck quick. The 8 speed with a 6.4 and 3:73’s pulls my 10,000 lb 5th wheel with ease compared to a 6 speed version.

Nooooooo!!!

Besides - shortages and price gouging are rampant, but so is the coming end of the Hemi. Maybe?

UPDATE: The cargo camera was fixed by an OTA update just over a week after delivery.

Maybe because it's a gas engine? I don't know, I thought I wanted the six speed but this was only one of two trucks in the U.S.A. that was spec'd like I wanted so didn't have a choice. Just over 10,000 miles and loving it! Most of the time I can't even feel the trans shifting, either up or down. Crazy smooth. Only thing I wish I had was the navigation but I've got a great Garmin and my phone for that. Now if I could only get my Garmin to talk to the truck screen like my phone does I'd be soaring above the clouds!!

The 8sp and the Hemi is a great pairing. My 1500 had the 5.7 8sp with 3;21s and still spun the 35s easy and pulled my 7k trailer easy.
Bought my new PW and still am loving this 8sp but now have 4:10s, it’s a freakin beast for a stock truck.
