2020 2500 Crew cab 4x4 and looking for tire recommendations. I drive about 15000 miles per year with about 5000 towing a camper. My drive is 1/3 mile of gravel up thru the woods and have to deal with snow. I want something that provides good traction, great ride and are quite. The stock size is 285 60R20

I have Cooper AT3 XLT for spring, summer, and fall- they're severe weather rated and quiet on the highway while towing, but, they tend to pickup pebbles. I don't run them in the winter just because I don't want to ruin my wheels, so for winter tires I run Nokian Outpost A/T and they're very quiet on the highway, have a nice tread pattern, and offer great traction.

I replaced General Grabber ATX and they were okay but got a bit noisy for what they are and I hate the flat spots they develop when parked in the cold. I've also used Falken Wildpeak AT3W and they were good all around and quiet but they got pricey.

I called around and found some Falken wildpeak tires locally and they seem to get great reviews. I have always been a fan of the Firestone destination at tires on my 1500. They don’t make them for the 2500, only the destination xt. I was told it is a completely different tire. Does anyone have experience with that tire? How is it? How does it compare to the destination at or the Falken wildpeak?

Toyo rt’s. I pull a 28’ trailer, great handling on and off road. Also quietest non AT tires I’ve ever tried

Bfg Ko2. I've ran toyo at2/at3, toyo rt, and I keep going back to ko2 few dollars cheaper than toyo and preform better in snow and ice. Never had a flat in gravel roads and they wear pretty good as I tow 15k quite regularly.

I still have not decided on tires for my ram but I am now considering switching from the 20" wheel to the 18" wheel to improve ride. Has anyone here done this swap and was the ride improvement worth the cost?

It will make the ride much better. The cost of tires on a 18in wheel is a little cheaper as well. Selection of tire is better on 18in as well. I going to switch to 18in eventually once cash is available as I already bought new tires.

You can tell the difference for sure but is it worth it idk how your check book looks lol. I always sell my used tires and wheels if I change to recoup some cash. I never run my tires bald either as I replace before then and sell my worn down tires for cash as well.

I can buy a set of new take off 18” wheels and tires for the price of 4 20” tires.

Has anyone here went down to either 18" or 17" from the factory 20"? Do you feel the ride difference is significant? Just really struggling to make a decision. Thanks for the help.

Goodyear Duratrac's are the best tire I've ever run for those kind of conditions. Hands down best and that's after trying out different tires over 5 decades. Only downside is price and availability. If you can find them get them! Also make sure to run them at the proper inflation for the load on the truck. Most people just run them up to max psi and complain about the ride and traction. Once you get them dialed in you'll love them.

As for the wheels, don't go any larger then you have too. Less tire sidewall means you will get a harsher ride.

Michelin Defender LTX's are great tires. Work well in the mud and snow, and are quiet and long wearing. I ran them when I lived up in the snowbelt too. Just a great all around tire.

Can't comment on how much better the ride will be with the 18's, but you sure read that a lot. It is the reason I just ordered a Limited Longhorn instead of the Limited. You can't get 18's on the Limited.

I finally made a decision on tires for my truck. I just ordered Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT 285-65R20. Everyone has told me these will fit with zero rubbing. Hopefully there right!1f91e.png

I run Falkens AT3W's on my 1500. They do make the size for the 20"

I have the Destination XT's. I replaced the OEM Nexen's in the factory size and they are very good tires in the winter and are quiet.

I'm getting the Nokian Outpost A/T for my 2019 2500 Ram Tradesmen. They will be for year around use. I hope they wear well?

I swapped original equipment 20” Firestones for 18” KO2’s and couldn’t be happier. Not even the same truck. BUT don’t run the air pressure at 65 like on door post. Goodrich has a load chart on their site. Set according to your load.Empty I run 50 in front and 45 in rear cold pressures. Different truck. You’ll just have to get used to the tire pressure warning light. Someday I may buy and AlphaOBD and reset when I air up for a load.
