I have a 2013 Ram with 5.7. I replaced cam and lifters due to the “hemi tick”. The amount of noise was better but not gone. The back passenger side still has a consistent tick. I took it apart and replaced all push rods and rockers with new ones. It still ticked. I just went in and put new lifters in and it still frickin ticks. So i am notably frustrated at this point.

looking at the new lifters that i just took out, the back set had some signs of wear on the shafts where the the front ones were shinny. Is there a possibility of an oiling issue? Idle oil pressure is 26-28 and running speed 42-50.

it is a high milage truck but was not abused. Thanks for any info.

Sure its lifters and not exhaust?

try some Liqui MOoy or Redline Oil.
Moly is cheaper.

I had new cam and lifters, slight tick and moly took it away completely after just 190miles.

The lifter is really loud when i crank it and goes down to a lower tick after about 20 seconds. It only ticks at idle. Goes away immediately with any throttle

I am going to switch over to redline aand liqui moly.
suggest you do similar.
may be both our lifters are too far gone to quiet down.

Checked them all when i had it off good point as those are a very common problem.

i am wondering if i could have a malfunctioning MDS solenoid valve. I did not do the MDS delete when i put the new cam in so i am stuck with the MDS system. Does anyone have any knowledge of what the solenoids can do?

the new lifters i removed seems to have one of the MDS lifters from the back set that you can push the plunger in and out easily the others have too much tension to push in. Wondering it it did not oil up right or if it was bad and the warranty set has a bad one or two lifters.

The one lifter sounds like it isn’t “pumping up” which is why you have a tick due to valve lash . You will lose lift on that valve and should lose some power. Look into a Super Chips Tuner to turn off MDS instead of a delete.

I am going to replace mds solenoids while i have it apart. They are cheap. This way i know they are completely closed for when i do have them disabled. I am going to test all of the lifters. The unpumped up ones are easy to tell now that i know. I have the 8 new ones i took out and one is notably soft. So will use those to replace any bad ones. The drivers side works fine and is quiet. I will still take any advice yall have but i ordered another head gasket and head bolts and have my weekend mission set currently.

I thought these were just famous for ticking? My 03 had a tick from the day I got it to the day I sold it.
It’s kind of a thing with hydraulic lifters, but there is a chance you have an exhaust manifold leak. Will sound exactly like lifter tick.
Once you rev up it will go away as well since the air velocity sends the leak past the manifold gaskets.

not the first guy to change lifters and still have them tick, and you wont be the last, I wouldn't go changing the lifters again just yet. Read redline thread in my sig. Liqui moly m0s2 is powdered moly in suspension, redline and lubegard biotech is oil soluble moly. Look at the poll, there is a huge success rate at killing tick. Maybe the liquid moly will help, use that now with the current oil and let us know how it changes the tick if at all. If it changes the tick, a lubrication strategy might be the ticket, many of us killed our tick with redline. 5w30 in warm state, 0w30 in snow state.

I have a 2011, running superchips tune with MDS off.
I bought the truck with 32k mi and have always thought the lifters ticked until it was warm.... then I learned my lifters are dead silent, I have broken exhaust manifold studs. And guess where most of my idle tick is coming from....pass side rear.
Your lifters are likely fine. Your manifold bolts....probably not so much.
It's a huge, wide spread and well publicized issue. It's not rare or unheard of. Quite the opposite.

I replaced all the lifters myself over the weekend. The pushrods still looked flawless so I reused them (installed them the exact way they came out). Torqued everything to spec, soaked the lifters for 4 hours before install, got it all back together, I used mopar oem lifters, and it was pretty noisy on first start up, but it quitened down after about 10 minutes of idling,, but Still have somewhat decent ticking coming from the driver side, going to pull the valve covers this weekend and see if I can find the culprit....

Did you replace the cam ? It's usually wise to replace both cam and lifters at the same time

Remember a trick on Mopar rocker shafts, banana grooves, helped get the oil on the thrust side of the rocker. The Gen 3 Hemi’s have the cam too high, doesn’t get nearly the amount of “splash oiling” and the lifters do not have a groove on the body so oil can flow down to the roller.
