Have been leaning towards the discover at4 4s in size 285 70 17 on rebel rims. But recently saw the atp II through discount tire.
Anybody have experiance with these?

25000 miles on my CooperAt3 4S tires. Wearing well, good on dry and wet roads. Did outstanding In wet heavy snow. So far very quite. They’ll easily 40000 plus miles. A similar tire with good reviews on the forum are Falken wildpeak AT4.

Btw, I did loose 2 mpg compared to the stock Goodyear’s.

Either one will work for your pavement princess. ;) Think you should lean towards the atpII as it is geared more towards just hwy/road use.

Extra 150 off the atp II today at discount!

For that otd price I can throw some snow tires on my old rims and be in the same $ ballpark as just buying the 4s

I bought the Cooper Discoverer at3 4s, very good tire, great price and an ideal all terrain tire. Living in Canada, we get snow, slush, rain and this tire works excellent in all those scenario's. This is the second time I have purchased these, quite pleased with them for traction, appearance and road noise.

I'm waiting on my ATP II's that I ordered black Friday for my 2500. I got all 4 with taxes for $740 using all the discounts. Can't beat that for 20" all terrains. I am currently running the Goodyear Ultraterrain AT that is Aldo a Discouny tire specific make. I have loved them as well and almost went back to them. But that price on the Coppers was hard to pass up.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on tires quite yet
Like I said in an earlier post I am going to be changing to rebel rims from standard. I heard that i should be OK and not rub ucas. The cooper 4s in both the 265 and 285 size are SL rated. I know there is also the xlts as a option on the e rating but those do not have the severe service snowflake thing ...lol...at least not in my size.
Pavement mostly, tow a small boat and single snowmobile probably less than 2000 lbs.

Will SL rated 4s be sufficient or should I go 2 e for stiffer sidewall? I know it will add about half an inch to sidewall with the upsize

The 4S should easily handle 2000 lbs . They also handle boat launches easily.

Love Cooper tires! I have used them for 30+ years. I believe they are the only American made tire now. They come out of Findlay, Ohio. Go Coops!

@Jasfish18 I have this setup on my 2017 (LT285/70R17 Cooper Discoverer ATP on the same 17"x8" wheels they put on the Rebels that year). They were the least expensive respectable tires I could find at Discount Tire, and so far they have performed well. I like the extra side wall flex when mounted on these rims, it helps offset the stiffer Bilstein shocks I installed at the same time. They are load range E, but I wouldn't know it since the taller side wall more than compensates for any extra stiffness from an E rated tire (in my opinion). Then again, I wouldn't have minded a D or even C load range, as I don't really take this thing on rough trails where they get cut up. I suppose Houston has its own puncture hazards, so maybe I'm lucky they are Es.

There is about 1/2" spacing from the outer profile of the tire to the upper control arm. I have my front raised by 2.1", but I don't think that matters. I chose that size combination because I know the Rebels run it stock without any problems, so it was safe. If you want detailed pictures of the clearance, let me know.IMG_20210921_073257039.jpgIMG_20210921_073431618.jpg

I had Coopers several times and never had a issue. Last month I opted for Mastercraft Courser AT2 all terrains. They are made by cooper and are cheaper. They are great. Quiet, smooth, grip well and super great on wet roads. They balanced with very little weight. They are way better than I ever expected.

@Jasfish18 , not much. I prefer the cleaner look myself, so I don't use spacers or anything like that.IMG_20210921_073517791.jpgIMG_20210929_112428820.jpgIMG_20210929_112528869.jpg

For reference, here are the stats on both the Cooper Discoverer ATP:
  • Diameter: 32.83 in
  • Width: 11.4 in
  • Weight: 55 lbs
  • Speed Rating: S (112 mph)
  • Load Index: 121/118 (3195/2910 lb @ 80 psi))
  • Load Range: E1 (10 ply)
  • Max Inflation Pressure: 80 psi
  • Wheel Width Range: 7.5”-(8.5”)-9.0”
  • Tread Depth: 0.531 in
  • Rev/mile: 633
And the Rebel replica wheels I have them on:
  • 17 x 8 5-139.70 Hollander
  • Offset: 18.05 mm
  • Bolt Pattern: 5-139.7mm
  • Hub Size: 77.8 mm
  • Back Spacing: 5.21 in
  • Material: Aluminum, polished with painted inlay
  • Weight: 26.5 lb

I just bought two sets of Coopers truck tires (AT2's). We'll see how they last. I bought mine from Walmart.com (much cheaper) ...and took them too my local GM garage where they Road Force balanced them. They run out nice. (the tire guys at my local Walmart are bozo's so I don't have them balance the tires). But some Walmart tire guys are fairly good.

I haven't bought Coopers in quite a while, but these seem good.

Road Force balancing isn't necessary, but it's a higher level of balancing. Probably the best balancing you can get. It's a Hunter balancing machine and a feature applies 1,250 lbs of pressure on the tire and spins it to mimmic road road conditions. Then it makes 'smart' balancing determinations. After that the tech will (may) break the tire bead and spin the tire to match rim conditions (if there is an advantage to doing so), ...and then finally balance the tire/wheel assembly. The goal is to achieve the fewest weights and avoid speedy techs from making mistakes.

Discount tire has road force balancers which is good. According to the D/T guys I talked to they don't do the Road Force process on new tires. I'm thinking what he meant is they apply pressure but don't do wheel/rim matching, but he didn't articulate. Double-check if you buy tires there. But they have good balancing equipment which is good.

Installed new Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s tires on my 1500 today. Took off a set that I put on three years ago when the stock tires wore out. I think I got good performance from the first set, but they didn't last as long as I would have hoped.

They were getting pretty close to the wear bars, so had some life left. The guy at the tire shop estimated that I would get another 10000 miles out of them. They had a little less than 40 K miles. We got a bit of snow here this week, and I could tell that they were not gripping nearly as well as they did before. If it was spring/summer, they would have stayed on the truck.

I will be driving to Maine next week, pulling a snowmobile trailer, so I decided that it was time to buy now, rather than risking a wreck.

New tires look similar to the old ones. Still made in USA (good), no longer available with white letters, black wall only, in cast that is important to you.
