I have a 2016 Ram Big Horn with an 8.4 3C w/ Navigation radio but I want to upgrade to an 8.4 4C. My local salvage yards never have any in inventory, i'm not sure they even sell radios retail.

1. Is this a direct swap, plug and play?

2. Does anyone know of a good place to purchase an 8.4 from?

I would advise to not go with infotainment. They are very overpriced for what they give you and the customer service isn’t that great.

I did this upgrade on my 2018 with the help of members on the forum with great support. Check out the thread in the DIY section. All the info you need is in there.

I concur. My biggest issue with them is they only offer a 90 day warranty and when you are buying reconditioned electronics, 90 days does not make me comfortable. I found a different site as well, can't remember the name, that was just a little bit more but had a 1 year warranty and were quick to respond to questions. I agree with Gordo, go through the DIY, you can find everything you need and locate them through various sources - i.e. eBay, salvage dealers, etc. If I remember correctly, there are not very many parts to completing the upgrade. Main difference is the fan speed control 4 vs 7.

I was hoping for a cheaper solution, I think the new radio from Infotainment is well over a thousand dollars.

Infotainment doesn’t sell new units. They get them from junkyards and retrofit units from other vehicles to put in Ram trucks.

"New" is also most likely not new.. they picked it out from a salvage yard and reprogrammed it as well.
