Am I crazy? I had a new engine dropped at around 145k and fuel economy has gone way down since. I'm not sure if something is wrong or just the way it is. What is baffling me is my HUD display. If I recall, correctly, with other engine, at idle the fuel economy display would show, regardless, no fluctuations and be at a constant. It now shows 0 and has been for awhile. I'm talking about the bar that appears at bottom of HUD. I would think at idol the fuel economy would increase because it's not being fed additional fuel. Also at idol, all 8 cyl are firing instead of eco engaging.
My question is, is this normal or something is going on? I really don't recall seeing this with the other engine. I've asked dealership to investigate this issue and they...well.. you know how dealerships are. I also have the lifetime warranty, so if there is something wrong with this engine I should be ok. Thanks for your input.

Well for the fuel economy gauge shows how many miles per gallon, if you are sitting still its not going to show the bar because sitting at idle you are literally getting 0 miles per gallon... Maybe someone smarter than me can chime in, but Eco is not for idling, its only enabled while in drive and cruising or coasting to a stop.

That's right. 0 mph = 0 mpg. ECO light turns off below a set speed, maybe 15 or 10 mph, and all cylinders run at idle.

@Robert1345
I'm not sure what your problem is. Are you concerned with mpg with a new engine? What does your mpg meter say when you're cruising down the street? I'd measure your odometer reading at the fuel pump before and after a full tank to get your own measurement to compare with the meter in the truck.

I have a '12 2500 with 222,500 miles and a '12 1500 with 145,000 miles and both of them always have shown the bar at 0 when stopped and idling and if you are talking about the MDS (neither one of mine has an ECO light) all 8 cylinders fire at idle.

I'm dbl checking to make sure what I'm seeing is correct. For some reason I thought that before the new engine I saw the meter bar at idle sitting somewhere in the middle. As for driving down the road, it is very irratic. Old engine I was getting 15-17 city and 19-21 hwy. New engine getting 9-11 city and 15-18 hwy. Something just don't seem right.

If I can stay under 70 MPH I can get around 19 MPG average. I don't know what I get city, Ive never checked and drive in it as little as possible.

New engine may not be broken in yet. How many miles are on it?

When I had my 11 Bighorn it would show 0 at idle when stopped and the ECO light was not on. My new 21 shows the same thing, 0 and no light. I wouldn't overthink it

That's good to know. I couldn't remember if it was like that prior. For some reason I thought it stayed a constant at idol. Still don't get the poor fuel economy though
