You don't need either Andriod Auto or CarPlay to use Google Maps or Waze, you can use them directly from your smartphone. Many, many people do. I did for years until I purchased my RAM with Android Auto. The apps are fully designed to work on a smartphone.Green_Manalishi has a 2017, I do not think Carplay was in RAM till 2018.
I'm an old person too, lol. It's not that difficult. Here is everything you need to know:How do you PRE-DOWNLOAD GOGGLE MAPS ? I am a old person.
YUP, but I mentioned it because Green_Manalishi wants to display the maps on his U Connect screen, and he has neither Carplay or Android installed on his 2017. I know there were some PPL adding modules and such to display stuff on screen in the past, but that is a lot of stuff to do to display maps on a screen. PPL were using miracast, jailbreak and a wi fi setup. AS U said, can just use your smartphone/device and turn on and use for maps and maybe mount somewhere for better viewing. You don't need either Andriod Auto or CarPlay to use Google Maps or Waze, you can use them directly from your smartphone. Andriod Auto and CarPlay just make using the apps even easier because the app is mirrored to the infotainment screen, but if you don't have that, you can simply use your smartphone screen. I bought an inexpensive smartphone dash mount which worked great. You can get them everywhere in many different styles and options. I then used Bluetooth for the audio, but that too is optional.
Even if you need to do this, it's still far better than OEM GPS apps, especially on older vehicles.
Yes, I realize that's his preference. But if it ends up not being possible or too much trouble/cost, he can always fall back to using a smartphone. It actually works really well and there are some great dash mounts.YUP, but I mentioned it because Green_Manalishi wants to display the maps on his U Connect screen, and he has neither Carplay or Android installed on his 2017.
