Mods, if this ain’t the right spot, good luck on figuring out where to put it ‘cause I didn’t know and it’s not really year specific to anything but anyways, somebody help me clear this up; if a 1500 is considered a half-ton and a 2500 is a three-quarter ton and a 3500 is a one-ton then what in the hell is a 4500 and a 5500 considered as??

1.5 and 2 ton. That said the 5500 has around 6 tons of payload capacity.

At one point I was pretty sure that might be what it actually was and I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just saying I guess that’s why I just always thought it wasn’t gonna be that simple and why it was always confusing to me because if you look at it all a certain way, when you compare a half-ton to a 1-ton with a 3/4-ton in the middle of those two, it goes in 1/4-ton increments so technically if you went by that logic, a 4500 would be a 1&1/4-ton and a 5500 would be a 1&1/2-ton so who knows. Maybe since the 4500 and the 5500 were made for serious work then maybe that’s just why they built them that way to where the 4500 and the 5500 go in 1/2-ton increments between the two and up from a regular 1-ton.

Manufacturers don't use this identifying misnomer; i.e. 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and so on any longer. If you want correct capacities for a certain truck you should either look at the ratings on the door jam of this vehicle, or use this link https://ourpublicrecords.org/vin-lookup/?hl=Ram VIN Lookup&msclkid=5a2a67b886c31b96f28a05e113a2e007 to see it on-line, or if it is a new truck you can ask the dealer for that info.
Oh I know, it’s just like even before they started making the longer 6 foot beds and the other beds that were shorter than 6 foot, there was a lot of times back when the 6 foot beds were the common that not all of those truck beds were exactly 6 feet long so yeah, I get what you’re saying. I was just my merely asking kind of for fun that you know, if a 1500 is classified as a as a half ton and if a 2500 is classified as three-quarter ton and if a 3500 is classified as a 1 ton then what would it be for the 4500s and the 5500s.
