2014 express , 130k miles.. I am pretty hard on the truck.. sees snow and mud and trails a decent amount. use to tow with it years ago... I was yanking a large bush out, I had no traction in 2 wheel.. 4 high has to many safety's that don't let you put all the power to the wheels. so I had it in 4 low.. spun the tires but it did pull the bush out.. I heard a pop didn't think much of it.

when I went to put the truck back in two wheel, the transfer kept failing.. normally I do all the work myself. this is the first time I am paying someone to fix my truck or any car I've ever had.. between work and 40 hours of overtime a week consistently family and kids . I couldn't be bothered and needed a brake. Shop said there was some good amount of stretch in the chain from the mileage.. maybe this gave it the play it needed to break. who knows

people love their trucks. I use my for what it is. a truck.. i am not mad it is what it is. I've broken a lot of stuff in my day :)

is it possible it broke because i accidently shifted it into drive while it was transfering from 4 lo to 2wd? the trans has to be in neutral for the transfer, i figured there would be a safety for that..

or its def from pulling the bush out..

That's a good question. If I remember right when I tried 4 low in my 2017 Ram 1500 pentastar w/ 8spd, the 4 low button just flashes at you unless you have the dail-o-matic shifter in neutral.

yep its tells you shift to neutral to complete, you shift to neutral and hit the button again.. But while you are in neutral and going from 4 low to 2wd it allows you to shift to drive and it goes in. i am wondering if that's how it broke. i just though there would be a safety for that.

Not sure about your problem, but on my 2010 Ram 1500, the rotary switch on the dash seems to be very sticky. It always turns, but it feels a lot stickier than it was. I first noticed it after it was parked for about 6 months over the Winter.

The newer Ram 1500s use the traction system to make the axles act like lockers. You don't get to pull as many RPMs but damn the thing will pull and not spin tires. I pulled a tree in my yard off camber angled on a 4 - 5 ft knoll. the root ball was about 6 - 8 inch deep and 3 to 4 ft in diameter. 4HI worked so much better then when I used 4low on a flatter pull.

PS, didn't even burn the brass, never mind actually spinning a tire.

My expensive 2022 Laramie wouldn't go into 4x4, then noticed that the 2wd button was stuck in. 3,000 miles and I'm already having problems with a $70,000 truck! Tapped the 2wd button a couple of times and the button released and I was able to use the 4x4 buttons again.
