There is no gap on mine, even with the narrower RP 20-500 oil filter. Model Year 2017, built Jan. 2017. It looks like they custom fit every hose assembly? I can't believe their assembly tolerances vary by inches in this day and age of 3D CAD layouts. Then again, I had a CAD Designer stick an engine oil filter into a chassis frame once without noticing.

What transmission do you have? Do you have 4x4?

Next time you have the coolant drained and are bored it looks like you could trim the hose (on the plastic connector side - left side of pic) about a 1/2" and reclamp, which should pull it away from the filter.

Nah - not worth the effort. I'll just keep using Royal Purple 20-500. It's got a third more surface area than the stock filter anyway. I've tried manually trimming coolant hoses before - it's a bear.

You need something like this to make nice cuts on heater hoses. There's other makes and similiar styles of hose cutters, but this is the one i have, and know, lol

Heck I don't even have a can cutter.

But I do have an overhead crane for lifting motors out. I gave up on getting a lift. That's what I'd really wanted.

First oil change included a Fram Ultra and looks like I'll be sticking with it. Thanks for the info.
DO NOT USE FRAM FILTERS!! I experienced a defective filter from FRAM. I have been a mechanic from age 14 to present (63). Worked on NYC Taxi Cabs and a Ford Mechanic. In my lifetime working on cars I never experienced a Filter Failure. I notified FRAM and they sent me a new filter and I sent them the defective filter. Lucky for me I caught it before there was a catastrophic engine failure. I had did an oil filter change and took the car out with my wife. I smelled oil. Put it back on the lift and noticed the filter was leaking. It was tight. I had extra filters for the car in my shop and changed it out. FRAM never got back to me. And I never bought another FRAM filter. Now I buy WIX for my other cars and ROYAL PURPLE extra large for the HEMI truck.

Royal Purple Filters extra large are the best filters that I have seen:) And for MOPARS are far superior to anything out there. Well worth the extra money. I use WIX in my other cars. Not my HEMI:)

I have a lift and I am scared to put my 21 Ram 1500 on it:) I did an oil change the old fashion way; jack and stands:) A kid at the dealer told me they had a 22 RAM fall off the lift.

Don’t let some kid at a dealership scare you away from using a lift. No way in hell I would not be using a lift because a kid at a dealership said they had one come off. Either it was broke or not rated for the weight or someone didn’t know what they were doing. Yes it can happen but you just have to make sure you lift in the right spots and make sure the lift is secure enough to lift the weight of the truck.

I have skid plates and I can’t get the pad on the frame in the rear. Front is no problem. The lift is a 25 year old Snap On lift 11k capacity.

far better than any new Chinese garbage lift thats for sure
sometimes it can take some trial and error attempts before getting a safe lifting set up
some people dont do this and then wonder why things fall off the lift?

I would think you could easily build a lift pad that would bolt into the same holes the skid plate bolts to. I can't see not being able to come up with something with a little bit of looking at the problem and some fabricating

Stuff you find out by accident, haha?

2nd interval on fram ultra, 18k easy miles, the wife 100 miles a day on freeway, no go stiff as a rock, no vacuum issue or contamination, must have been in bypass for a lot of miles. Oil was in good shape amber still smelled good, that had 10k miles pup.

Here is the deal, I had rp canister next to fram ultra canister in my wifes trunk, I never thought about dry heat cycles, lol? The rp is the oldest filter, I bought ten years ago, still like new. However, I am on the end of a 6 pack deal I bought fram ultra and not used but also in wifes trunk the filter was stiff as a board, lol? Age and temp in rav 4 trunk stiffened fram ultra. Zero doubt rp has better media, just yet another of a long list of examples of this. Also, store your microglass filters indoors. I have 20 rp 20-820 so glad they are inside. lol. A hot garage or a hot truck can mess them up, not RP apparently, but other filters. with canister filters it allows you to see things you otherwise would not think about/.
