Just wondering if rust proofing is worth it ??
Im told it should be reapplied every 2yrs
I did under coating on my last truck and by the end of a year
the coating was gone. That company is no longer around.
What a bad experience that was. what are your thoughts on
under coating? worth it or not,

What type of undercoating are you considering.
I'm not in favor of the hard coatings.
I have used Waxoly on 4 different vehicles now and have been well pleased with the results of using it.
It does need a touchup every couple of years but it does have good staying power.
The fluid film type are much softer and from what I have seen do need a yearly application,
and the spray oil ones definitly need reapplications.

Im not to sure yet on the kind of under coating
Rubberized
Woolwax
Oil spray
Just started looking into it, need something that can
handle alot of mud and gravel use. Does wax or oil
blast off from power washing? sometimes i have to get in there
and scrape off a couple inches of caked on mud/clay type crap before
power washing.

The road crews use a LOT of salt in the winter here. Crown and Rust Check are very commonly used to control the rust. They both work great, much better than the hard rubber stuff that actually seems to trap water and salt, speeding up the rust. I get mine done at Rust Check, have used the same place for 12 years, when they are brand new, about $300. Also get an annual touch up in late August before the next winter season, runs about $140. Cheap for the protection it provides.

I bought a sprayer off of Amazon for 100$ and spray fluid film myself. I have a pretty good system now so it doesn’t take me too long to do. The sprayer came with extensions with different angles and I can get in all kinds of nook and crannies. I’ve paid to have it done before and definitely didn’t feel like I got my moneys worth as they pretty much just sprayed the frame.

I do a very extensive application the first 2 years then would just touch up every year after that. I’ve done this on all my trucks and never end up keeping them haha. I’m sure those trucks are driving around pretty rust free.

My Waxoly vehicles go through the car wash frequently and the hardened wax stays in place good.
When I changed the front differential fluid on my "15" when I pulled the skid plate off the upper side that had
not been sprayed was the only place that had any rust.
The road I live on was dirt untill just a few years ago and the town uses considerable salt and then the state and county use even more including calcium which is extremely corrosive.
When I traded the "15" for my "19" in "21" there was no rust or corrosion visible anywhere under the truck.
And when any work was done none of the bolts where rusted and difficult to remove.

This is the product;

I can whole heartedly recommend it.

As someone that lives in a rust belt often. Never the hard stuff, always the ( cheap oil) based stuff cost me 70$ last fall and again this spring. Honestly it is worth it to me, to get it done twice

my dealer sprayed mine as part of my sale.it needs to be inspected yearly but it's covered for the life of my extended warranty.i'm not sure which brand was applied though.but in central b.c. it's not really an option to not have some kind of protection.

When I bought my '16 a few years ago I got a Woolswax kit off Amazon, thinking it was maybe $150 for the spray gun, multiple nozzles, and a gallon of the actual coating. Spent a few hours on separate occassions spraying everything down, including inside the rockers, tailgate, doors, etc... That is what takes the longest. After that I spend maybe on average $25 to $50 a year on more coating. This does not harden but is a thick wax type substance. The big marketing point is that it "creeps", meaning if you spray seams and where two pieces of metal are joined it kinda' soaks down in between them. This is wear rust always starts. Surface rust is not really an issue but the bad rust always starts from the inside out.
I live in the rust belt and rust was the main issue with my last truck, that I bought new and tried to keep clean and the frame and visual undebody parts clean and painted. But as said above the rust starts from the inside where you can't see it, and by the time it becomes visible on the outside it's too late. I actually started having mechanical failures because of the rust......brake lines, parking brake cables, fuel lines, trans cooler lines, transmission and transfer case shifter linkages, diff covers, etc... all failed simply because they were rusted out (not to mention the rotted rocker panels.)

Got mine done professionally when I bought my truck. The dealer used Valuguard, and so far, so good. It looks like the underneath was powder coated. When they do it to new vehicles, it comes with a lifetime warranty, and an 8 year warranty for used vehicles.

Is the valueguard a hard coating or soft oil or wax spray?

I took your advice and searched amazon, wow glad i did, thanks so much
my bud has a big shop we do all our tinkering at on our trucks and im going
to spray my new truck myself. I know that it will be done right,no short cuts
and i can do all touch ups in the future.
Thanks again

Good to hear and glad I could help. It will be nice for you to do it in a shop, specially if there’s a lift! I would definitely cover stuff you don’t want over spray on though. I have some big pieces of cardboard I put under the truck. Also I do the undercoating end of summer during some a little dry spell. This gives it time to set up and get some dust on the underneath, believe it or not it helps create a cake like barrier that lasts. The old timers around here would shoot bar and chain oil underneath and run the trucks all over dry dirt roads or do dohnuts in a sand pit.

I personally think it all depends on where you live and what type of undercoating you get. I live in Pennsylvania and winters destroy the undercarriage of vehicles around here. I went with an oil-based undercoating that needs to be re-touched every year or two. This is the best thing I've found in my area and would recommend.

NHOU or Krown. Both are oil-based undercoating and needs to be reapplied annually or so say's Krown to maintain the warranty. Krown's pricing seems reasonable and I'm damn sure not going the DIY route. I'm going with Krown, as soon as I can get away. Nearest dealer is 130 miles away. State can't handle snow around here. The salt solution, or whatever, is hell on carbon steel. I bought one of those undercarriage sprayers off Amazon and use a water hose to run it in mean time.

Yes GGlaser, the PTP is the pits. I ran across it one hellvua winter going to Detroit, MI., in a 2500 Suburban. The entire undercarriage was covered in rust after a few months passed.

Blaster has a “surface shield” that seems to do better than fluid film and woolswax.

In regards to overspray and Woolswax. My experience with the Amazon gun and doing it myself there was really no need to worry about overspray. With the wands the focus of spray is pretty small and easy to control. Obviously when spraying inside the tailgate, fenders, etc... there is nothing to worry about. Underneath the general area I used the "straight out" wand (versus the 360 degree wand inside panels) and could direct it pretty good. Not like you are spraying paint or rubberized undercoating as you can clean up the clear Woolswax pretty easy. I also use some of the black tinted Woolswax but that is always last and just kind of dust the visible places of the undercarriage for looks, but again pretty easy to clean up.
