2014 Ram 1500 Express; it came with a 5.0 Uconnect Radio without steering wheel radio controls. I added an 8.4 UAQ Nav/AA/CarPlay radio (thanks MP Grimm2) and considering adding THE CONTROLS to my existing wheel. I've purchased a new rear wheel cover with switch control openings (to swap) and both Radio Control switch buttons (to install). Is there an additional wire and/or harness that is needed to incorporate the new controls, or would it be "plug n play" with the two additional wire plugs of the control switches? Thank you in advance!!

So...after researching this Forum, I found the parts I need for the upgrade, which were listed in another thread. The parts are attainable as a "kit" from allmoparparts.com
Of the list of four parts, I DO have three of them...and I DO need a steering harness. My question is now this: can the listed part number 68163713AB be substituted for 68163713AC? (which is the part number I was able to find online so far). I think the difference between the "AB" and "AC" is that the "AC" harness adds functionality of the Gear -/+ (control button) in the steering wheel, which I don't have (column shift)...

You could ask Benny in the vendor section of the form. He would know the details of the part numbers. As I understand it, the difference in the letters at the end determine the version of the same part. So AB is a newer version of the part that ends in AA and so on. The number themselves are the part number and the letters are the version of the part.

Someone will chime in if I’m totally wrong.

Same part, newer revision. It should be compatible.

I actually just did this mod on Saturday. Purchased all pieces separately came out to being cheaper than the “kit” if you have any questions in the process. Reach out!

eBay. All in I spent about 85 bucks with shipping/tax for parts.

I actually found all the parts online from different vendors...all new OEM. Cover was $37, both button switches were $35/pair...and ready to buy the steering harness for $31...so all together, about $111 w/tax and free shipping. I've had a hard time finding a used complete wheel in good shape that wasn't costly; plus adding on the shipping cost to Hawaii, gets even higher

So I will FINALLY be doing this mod this weekend I delayed the install in search of the perfect carbon fiber wheel, and do the entire install at once. A Ram Rebel flat-bottom Carbon Fiber wheel with perforated leather grips...just gotta transfer all the switches and harnesses from the OEM wheel and add the back cover w/audio controls. Thank you for all the support...I'll keep y'all posted‼️

I ordered a steering wheel puller and an airbag removal tool; I'm crafty, and a fast learner, but by no means a mechanic :)-I wanted to take my time and do it right.
The tools arrived early...soo I did my carbon fiber steering wheel swap and added radio controls today ! (Friday afternoon) Let me know what you think
THANK YOU TO ALL THE GREAT FELLAS THAT HELPED!!!

Airbag removal: under 5 mins
Wheel removal: under 10 mins
Transfering wheel controls and harness: under 25 mins
Remounting completed wheel: under 10 minutes

Thank you! I won't lie...not being a mechanic, I was intimidated as hell to attempt the wheel install but I'm happy as hell that I did!! I give credit to Jack Griffith's Garage on YouTube for a detailed, easy-to-follow video!

When taking off the airbag, its been mentioned to release the bottom (single) clip FIRST, followed by the top 2 clips afterwards...which would make it easier because it would be less likely that the bottom clip would re-attach itself, versus the 2 top clips doing so while trying to release the bottom clip. Its also been mentioned that its worth buying an Air Bag Removal Tool to make the job easier. These tidbits of info truly helped; After releasing the first bottom clip in about 10 seconds, the last 2 took a total of 30 seconds! Here's a quick video clip...hope this helps!

I found a set of three brake spoons at Princess Auto(Harbour Freight) and one is the perfect size and amount of leverage for a buck or two.
