They have blamed Russia for everything from them losing the election to them destroying energy and the economy.

I see car carriers with new cars and pick-ups on them going up and down the interstate. I would think with higher interest rates, things would begin to correct themselves.

Actually been thinking of selling mine. Since I am retired now I don't see the need for 2 vehicles, or should I say 3. Won't sell the Harley but we don't need to each have something to drive. I wanted to get an idea of what it will bring in but don't want sales people calling me.

I'd love to sell mine but I can't pay what vehicles are going for now. I'm out on a 1000/month truck payment.

I bought mine brand new 2 years ago, on a whim I looked to see what CarMax would offer me because there were no new trucks at the dealerships here in northern California, I was floored that they offered me $8500 over what I paid for it!
I thought it was a mistake, I called them and they said the offer was good for a week.
So even though I never really had plans to sell it, it was an offer I could not refuse.
I went down and pocketed $13,500 dollars.

What were the details on your tk? 2WD or 4X4? So are you currently Ram-less? What's your next move now?

In Texas we pay have to pay taxes on any vehicle we personally sell (6.25%) and CarMax or any other dealer does not take those taxes out at the time of sell. It has to be reported and paid separately. This discourages a lot of direct vehicle sells in Texas.

Should be buy, not sell. Seller never has to pay taxes, but the buyer has to pay 6.25% whether they buy private or from a dealership. Its just that when you go through a dealership, and only a dealership, you can apply your tradein value against taxes owed so you only pay the difference. So if you buy a $40K truck but your old truck trades for $20K, you pay 6.25% on $20K only.

They used to have a loophole where private sellers could declare the vehicle worth whatever they wanted, so you'd sell the vehicle for $1, but you'd sell the wheels/tires for $19,999 that way the buyer only had to pay 6.25% on $1. That was fixed though, and now you have to pay I think its 80% the blackbook value no matter what you declare the sale for.

IMO it should be illegal to tax twice for a vehicle on which taxes were already paid the first time anyway. In theory, if a car changed hands every week to a new buyer, more in taxes would be paid to the government than the vehicle is even worth.

I sold my 2013 Ram a couple weeks ago. I couldn't pass up the used car prices right now. I'm now trying to find a new Ram. Very limited selection on dealer lots in NJ, so I'll probably end up ordering one.

I'm seriously considering selling my 2021 Warlock because I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania and I don't like the constant shifting, due to the little 3.6l engine. So I got three estimates, carmax $25,000, carvona $32,000 and black book $41,000. Truck is 4 months old, just turned 2,000 miles, many extras and showroom condition. I would say the first two are trying to make a killing off me and it isn't going to happen. At 68 y.o., I've learned a thing or two.

Last July I decided to trade my 2010 Sport Crew Cab with 132k and go back to a car. Didn't need a truck anymore, and knew that 32gal tank was gonna get expensive to fill with my mods & 93 octane tune.
Several dealers offered between $7500 & $9000 on trade. A local lot that deals in high-end cars & trucks had a 2013 Charger R/T Max for $20k w/90k on it.
They gave me $15,000 for my Ram with all mods left on it.
They sold it 3 days later for $20,000.

I just traded in my wife’s 2014 Laramie Longhorn 4x4 crew cab hemi with 107,500 miles on a 21 Limited Longhorn 4x4 crew cab Ecodiesel loaded with all the new bells and whistles. Received $23,500 for the ‘14 paid $67,700 for the 21. Put $20,000 down on the ‘21 reserving the remaining $3,500 for new ancillary items like bed rug, hard tonneau cover, window vents, etc.

After we sold the TT, I recently looked up the KBB value of my 2013 Laramie CC diesel 4x4 50k miles. KBB came back with a private party value of $58K (+ or -).

Thats 10K MORE than I paid for it brand new..car prices are crazy right now.

Yeah I misspoke. I was thinking of the capitol gains tax the government has in place. That's not a state thing but IRS.

Man, I did a KBB and a couple others with a request for my parent's truck with my phone number. Calls took weeks to cease. Don't give a working number if you do one of those. And their quotes aren't even trade in value, or near it.

I did like you and got a lot of calls, the places that did call offered 10-12K less then KBB said I should get for it, I wound up selling it to a private party. I paid 33K for the truck new in 2006, I sold it for $23,500 15.5 years later ( put the money on the my 22) so for me it felt great to get more then any dealer offered...

How and when have you paid taxes on 'selling' a vehicle? I too am in TX and have never heard of such a thing. The state does not track when we 'sell' an item. Now when the buyer registers the vehicle, they will pay the sales tax.
