When the transmission temperature is low (say below 140F), at the beginning of the day, doing 55mph, I get a noticeable, light1/2 second shudder every 3 seconds with a slight rpm rise (1150-1200ish while it thinks about shifting from 8th to 7th gear?). I am hoping it is nothing to worry about and not related to the pan swap/running 800 miles 1.25 quarts low. It has since been properly topped off with the OEM fluid.
Anyone know about whats going on?
Thanks

Mine turned out to be bad torque converter. Back order all across North America. Replaced with new and all surging and shudder now gone. ~2K $ to repair.

is this a common issue for a truck with 90,000 easy miles?

No, the ZF has a great reputation, but like all things mechanical things can still fail or wear prematurely.
