On a previous truck I had a factory bed step, but the new truck didn’t . The step was sorta useful . Looked at getting one for the new truck and found was $400(cdn). Then came across tailgate ladder, just over $100. Install was easy , straight forward , tho did replace bolts and screws with good SS ones.
Only down side is ladder in use needs to be on a fairly flat surface or it twists to much .
For me this is super handy, the “ass jump” at 60 just wasn’t as dignified as it use to be.

Same as I got. Works fine - I shopped all the other styles.

Wow I don't remember - probably bought 2 years ago. All I did was search for truck bed ladders. I'm sure you'll find it, then compare pricing.

Do you have to drill holes in the tailgate or does it use the screw locations from the factory cover plate?

Yep, just flip the ladder over and will mount to other side. It also came with quick detach pins (useless really as mounting plate still there.

You do have to drill about 4 holes in tailgate for mounting plate and two for tie down strap. I just made sure holes were at the high points , (had to drill 2 new holes in mounting plate for this). Then just put a dab of RTV silicone in the hole to seal.

You should had asked before buying. A small step stool is more useful e.g. accessing engine bay, a seat, table.

I have this one on my 2018 CTD 34 in tires. In some places it does not reach the ground, so I carry a 4x4 to go under it. I love it.

I've got one of these too, on my 2500. It works great.. that super heavy duty ladder is pretty awesome too.
