Just cancelled Sirius. Is there something better or as good?

I do NOT know all the tech stuff like some of you may, so I am looking for other avenues other than Sirius. We have pretty good stations here. ( but of course commericals) So we decided to cancel Sirius because of this and to get rid of one more bill. If we decide to go back at some point they always send you a thing to get 3 years for $99 as well. So it is one more option but frankly I have Alexia radio in the house and shop and I believe it is free. Would it be possible to use? Thanks

Amazon music if you have a Prime account. It will cut out when you lose cell reception.

I've used YouTube Music and Pandora steaming Bluetooth or thru Apple Play, both are pretty decent. However, they are dependent on the cell signal as well.

I hate terrestrial radio. It just has too many annoying commercials.

I use Amazon Music as I have a Prime membership. You can create playlists and download the songs to your phone so losing cell service isnt an issue. Prime makes you pay extra if you want ALL the songs though. Spotify is also good if you use the paid version, but the free one isn't great.

Standard radio is so dumb. Commercials every 10 minutes and the same 12 songs every hour....

I build my Playlists on YouTube music. Have a YouTube Red account with no commercials that also lets me download my Playlists as I see fit. 400 songs in four Playlists that don't use more than 30GB on my 128GB phone.

When I go up the mountain, these downloaded Playlists will play whether I have cell service or not.

I let my Sirius expire, just began receiving discounted offers, going to wait a while, i have not really left town in several months, so i don't really need it.

When i do sign up again, it will be on a card that's only good for a short period, like 6 months, so they can't get me on the full price of the following year

If all you want is music there are any number of alternatives. The problem is I'd rather listen to talk radio and there are few alternatives to SiriusXM. That's why I keep Sirius and also use podcasting apps from my phone through Android Auto.

SWMBO put Sirius on her cell, got 6 months free. We used it last week driving from Flatistan to Virginia on I95 and back. Bluetooted it into her system. Just a couple dropouts here and there.

I like Sirius. A lot of variety and no commercials.
I let my subscription lapse for a bit. When you do they practically beg you come back and offer service for dirt cheap. Just keep doing that every year.

I use have Youtube Premium. That gives me Youtube without commercials (everywhere I can watch YT vids) AND Youtube Music (for my truck and at home). Best of both worlds IMO.
If you have no cellular data reception, then you are SOL.

With that, will it continue to play in the background while using your phone for other things like maps? Regular youtube shuts off now unlike a few years ago.

Yes YT Music will keep playing even while you use Maps and other stuff. Obviously, whatever else you will have with it will play over it but brings down the volume temporarily then resumes.

Yeah I know, regular YT will stop if you do anything else. Sucks.

You can set your Playlist to download, so you are no longer SOL when on premium and away fron service. :)

Ive had Sirius for 10 years now, They will always give you a promotion if you play hard ball. As soon as my promo is up and they charger me $19.99 a month I call to cancel.. They lower it to $15, I say no thank you I want to cancel, $10.. no thank you I would like to cancel... Ok we have a special promo because you are a long term customer, $5 a month for 12 months... Ok I will do that. In a year I play the same game LOL. Another nice thing is I have the Sirius/XM app on my phone, When I plug my phone into my Vette the apple car play shows the Sirus/XM app and I can listen to it in my car also. 2 for 1 deal ;)

I don't have any issues getting Sirius for $60 a year. I call in just before my expiration date and say I want the same deal I had last year. Just set a calendar reminder on my phone. I load up my account with Sirius gift cards we get from Best Buy, so they can't hit our CC with any auto charges, etc. Just got the same deal started on the wife's new Pacifica too.

I also use podcasts through iHeart radio, which is free. And they can also be set to download so you're not dependent on a good cell signal.

I've only been a Sirius/XM customer since 2018, but I'm curious how you were able to just let it expire? The only way I know that works is if it's a new device/vehicle and you are given a free ~3month promo with it. You don't have to do anything with that and it just ends. Of course they hound you with mailers, etc.

They way it's been for me, once you are a member, there is no expiring. When your promo period ends, you get automatically billed full rate, which is ~$20/mo now and you have to call them to cancel.

I love the service, but it is a pain in the ****. I had to re-up at the beginning of April as always and the best I could do this year is $7.21/month all-in for 12 months. That's up a dollar from last year. I couldn't get anything lower or a longer contract. They'll only go year to year now best I could negotiate anyway.

I used a Credit Card to get Sirius a year ago
So 10 months ago, i went to the Credit Union & asked them for a new card.
They tried to bill me using the old number & of course it was refused :)

Right now, i stay within the Metro area & FM works fine
When i get some medical issues taken care of, i will be making longer distance trips, like a minimum of 400 miles per day.
When that happens, i will use a Pre Paid card or something to get Sirius, that way Sirius will expire each year

By the way, i have had Sirius since 2001
I only use it for the station called The Highway & Nascar on Race Days
