Fundamental question - I think. Just took delivery of a 2022 Ram 1500 Big Horn. It has the Level A equipment group. There is no Nav icon on my screen! What do I need to do to get it there?

I don't think Level A has NAV. If you have a smartphone, you will get it through Android Auto / Apple Carplay.

Well apparently you’re right and I’m not too smart. I mistakenly assumed that the vehicle had it when I took delivery. I was wrong. So the follow up question would be is it possible to add nav to a 2022 big horn? The service department said no but another dealership said maybe.

I believe it’s a replacement of the whole uconnect unit.

but if you have carplay you’ll find you hardly use the nav system.

Mine doesn't have nav but with apple play it works great from the phone. You might want to try that before dropping some $.

As the guys said, using Maps through iPhone/CarPlay works great!

5 or so years ago, if you had a 8.4 screen without Navigation, the dealership could turn on Navigation for $600 plus. Many owners declined that option & bought a Garmin GPS with several nice options & it comes with Free Lifetime Maps & Traffic.
That saved them $200 plus & all map updates were free

Whereas the Ram map updates cost another $149 plus

Now you can use Carplay & get maps on your radio screen, but someone else will have to walk you through
I don't own a smart phone

And if you have an Android, the Android Auto works Google maps or Waze really well. I rarely use the factory gps.

I have a 2021 ram 2500 tradesman. 8.4 uconnect system. No nav installed. When I plug my Samsung phone in I can't get the Google maps i have pulled up on my phone to either come up on the radio screen or have any sound (directions) coming from the radio. Any ideas. Dealer was of zero help.

It's possible if you change the whole head unit and that will probably be stupid expensive.

Don't you have a smart phone? I connect my phone with Android Auto when I get in my truck (simply plug the phone to the USB jack) and use Waze or Google maps for NAV. IMO that's probably better than any built-in NAV system out there.

Are you using the Android Auto app? You also have to plug it into the USB port.

Yes the app is on my phone and the phone is plugged into the trucks USB. In order to use anything I have to turn off my Bluetooth and go thru Google on the phone. If I don't turn off blue tooth I can get the map on the phone but no sound directions. Plugged into the USB or not. The dealer can't figure it out I have been to both dealers near me. I'm going to ask one of my employees if one of their kids would look at it and figure this crap out. I never thought at 56 I would be this electronically stupid.

Dang man, I don't have to disable anything, I plug the phone and then use Waze or Google maps on the 8.4 console under Android Auto. That's a weird one for sure.

Meh, the system is flaky at times, so probably not you man. :D

The 2022s have the Unconnect 5, it has wireless carplay and android auto. You simply add the device to the radio and it should be all good to go. You shouldn't have to turn Bluetooth on and off.

The dumb thing is, the Big Horn doesn't have a wireless charging pad option so it is kinda dumb to have wireless only functions if you have to plug it in to charge anyway.

Satelite based gps is a madatory feature when traveling around country! Many cell tower dead spots all over where phone nav fails because if lost cell connections. Lack of this feature sucks. As the author experienced, I assumed my 2022 Laramie had gps nav, then realized in the middle of Utah and Nevada vacation that it was not available when my phone nav failed. Also, the whole Uconnect radio/app device is a pretty bad design. Whole screen goes blank sometimes or has searching icon on it for long periods preventing access to menu options and the backup camera ... that's a pretty big FU. :(
