hi guys.
i got multiple codes thrown my way yesterday :( so I'm looking for your words of wisdom
2016 5.7L 4x4 (36k miles)

ran great for 6 years. no issues , never had to take it in for service. Yesterday on my way to work, after about 1~2 miles it i noticed it running poorly , engine shake , missing obviously. i was going 35 ~45 mpg. on my 12 miles drive to work , it continued to do this intermittently & at time loss of power . of course threw the engine light on.

i got home and put my scanner on and pulled the following codes.
P0300 - multiple cylinder misfire
P0307 - cylinder 7 misfire
P219B - Bank 2 air - fuel ratio Imbalance
P0171 - fuel system 1/1 lean

looks messy , my first thought was O2 sensors.... your thoughts ?

Can you clear the codes, start the engine and see which code pops up first?

O2 sensors can cause lean conditions, but misfires. Misfires are usually coil, plugs or camshaft sensor related.

Given you had a 'multiple misfire' code I would suspect a camshaft sensor.

thanks all.
so i cleared the codes on the way in to work this morning. about 2 miles in it stumbled , engine light flicked and went out. Seemed okay drivability wise all the way to work.

once i got to work i scanned it and the P0307 - cylinder 7 misfire code was pending. that's it.

i do have original battery. i have a load tester, i'll do that tonight.

You have not said if you have ever tuned it up? Those Hemi's like to have the plugs changed at around 30K.

^^^ His is a 2016 and would have the platinum plugs that they say are good for 100,000 miles. At 36,000 miles it would be doubtful that is the cause.

Bad batteries on newer vehicles cause all sorts of strange issues. Since his is 6 years old, which is pretty amazing as mine lasted just over 2 years, I would start there.

Wow when did they change them to 100K? Last I know they were 30-36K. But I have been out of that business for a longtime.

Mine was the intake manifold bolts loosening up. Retorque in sequence fixed my issue with similar codes

I'd check the cylinder #7 ignition parts.

Check the coil pack. Make sure the boot is in good condition, that the connection is in good condition and that it secures properly to the plug.

Pull the plug, inspect it and check the gap.

Check the wire for damage and continuity.

Put it all back together, clear the code and drive it.

If the code comes back, swap either the coil pack or the wire to another cylinder, clear the code and drive it again. If you get a different P030x code then the swap moved the defective component to that cylinder.

If the code comes back and it is still cylinder #7, swap the component you did not move before to another cylinder, clear the code and drive it again.

Those steps should narrow down what is causing the misfire code.

Start with the free stuff. Check the battery. If its fine, check the plugs on 7. Its not real common for a coil to fail but it does happen. I would think you would have a cam/crank correlation code if a sensor was bad. But check anyway.

My truck is 4 years old, 30K and still has original battery. I thought it was going to kill itself during covid when the truck just sat but its been fine.

The P0171 could be the result of one of the other codes. Fuel trims are almost always affected by any cylinder imbalance issues. I would start with checking the items under the P0307 code, and I suspect this where the problem could be. I don't find a P0800 in the service manual, but the description you listed matches P0300. Unless you've been experiencing a lifter type noise, I'm not immediately suspecting a worn cam lobe. A ***** fuel injector typically shows this pattern of codes, but as you can see from the list below there are a number of other simpler things that should be checked.

Good luck.

thanks everyone for the advise. it's greatly appreciated

it did shake terribly at the stop lights , i two foot it just in case.

i did load test the battery. it passed (surprisingly) i'll be getting a new one before winter regardless being how old it is and Wisconsin winters are tough on vehicles.

I've read about the intake bolts getting loose on someone's other post. worth a try to retorque i suppose.

yes the plugs are "supposed" to be good til 90K , I'll pull the coil pack on 7 and inspect it as well as the plug.

reading thru the details from Dusty, i wonder... if i just dont have a bad tank of gas ?!?! i do run the cheapest stuff i can put in. Maybe the ole RAM is telling me to stop it. (LOL)

just to update. I've not done much , it's been nice here so I've been on my motorcycle for commutes.

I've had everything (and i mean everything) brake on me last week. BOTH motorcycles, dead battery on one and flat tire if you can believe it on my old triumph. BOTH RAMs, the 98 1500 had a transmission line brake and made a mess everywhere. My boat's troller battery went bad and wouldn't take a charge & my 1969 charger's brakes are F'd up.

I cleared the codes in the 2016 RAM drove it and only the P307 misfire came back this time. cleared the codes again. i bought a new battery for the boat and towed it with the 2016. i got fed up went fishing Thursday. NO codes came back , but i can feel a miss. Not terribly shaking like before but at idle you can feel it. Runs like normal otherwise. i keep telling myself i'm being overly sensitive but lets be honest , we all know how our trucks should feel / run.

i drove it to work today , no codes.
i still intend to pull #7 & retorque the intake bolts & run the gas out of it and put in a tank of the good stuff. there is non-ethonal 93 out of town.

sorry, you are correct. it's a P0300 , i typod and have corrected this in the OP.

no lifter noise / abnormal noises that i've witnessed.

First, judging from the reading of your stars I wouldn't be buying any lotto tickets!

I think you're indicating that the symptom has since reduced. This could mean bad fuel. But, if you move the spark plugs and coils around for troubleshooting purposes and nothing changes, I would really start suspecting the fuel injector on #7 next.

Keep us posted.
