Yes I was very surprised. When I ordered this the dealer said it could be 3 months or so.

My fully loaded midnight Laramie was ordered 3/22, it's off the train and waiting to get picked up by transport truck. Looking like it'll be a less than two month turn around for Northern WI.

May 2 ordered a 3500 drw and still don’t have even a VON. 2 weeks. Is that normal? Dealer “claims” that the order was accepted. I’m sadly not a patient person.

Took me about 2 weeks to get the VIN. I did not bug them about it (Granger), they just sent me an email when it was assigned. Order date is 3/30/22, VIN assigned 4/11.
This process is not going to be fun for you as an impatient person. I have yet to ask for any additional info from the dealer, bug Ramchat about it, etc. Figure it does no good. It's just going to be what it's going to be. They send me updates when they get them.

I’m trying to be patient but feel dealer is not up to speed. My mistake for using this dealer. To me, once an order is submitted, and accepted, a von would be created. Maybe I’m thinking wrong?

You are not. VON was issued the moment the order was sent to the order system. VIN was issued a few days following. Here’s my timeline:
Ordered Feb 24.
VIN issued that next week.
D status in late March (part search underway)
D1 status early April (scheduled for production)
Now in the shipping stage.
I ordered with all the tech goodies and night Ed. Cameras, safety group B etc and it took just over two months to produce the truck. Now I wait for the trains, semi’s and customs to do their part and get it to the dealership.
An idea, does the timing difference have to do with how the dealer submits the order? Mine was submitted as a paid customer order. Is there unpaid customer order, standard customer order or other variant that would influence the timing? I did pay a deposit but legally they can’t charge for for the truck until I take delivery.
Last, I’ve heard dealerships get slot allotments for car orders. That probably has more to do with the time it takes.

I paid a deposit which they promptly cashed. They claim non refundable. It was really the wife who really wanted it. Did it while I was at work. I would never do a non refund

My dealer took a check for the deposit which they never cashed and actually gave back when I bought it. Said they had to have one to mark it as a sold truck with the order. Also said FCA audits them and if they cash the check or mark one sold they don’t have a deposit on they lose allocations.

I don't think that is correct. Unless she signed some paperwork that stated this was non-refundable I bet if push come to shove you could get it back. I know you stated you are not patient but there is such a low amount of inventory now that this is really about the best way to get what you want right now.

Happy days! FCA was able to pull my von and provide a vin!. Now to determine what status it's in. Is there a website that updates the status?

No website - your dealer ordering system is what you need to get/find the status. I’m chomping at the bit since mine is ‘shipping’ and I’m trying to figure out how long they take to come out of Mexico. I’ve talked to HQ and they say it's in the shipping stage. I’ll just call the dealer and get an actual shipping status code.

you should know, no one can control the shipping stages, except the shippers themselves

then it goes back to the assembly plant for final inspection
then they set it up for shipping, if it is going by freight train, they have freight cars at several locations on the property
If the ram is going to a nearby location, there are areas where the semi trucks load up & head out

Yeah if you look at the satellite view (don't know how old it is) down in Mexico they have several large yards with hundreds of trucks waiting to get shipped. I think most if not all coming out of Mexico take the train.

The Vans are too tall to travel in anything but a Railroad Flat Car or a semi trailer, many of them travel by semi trailer to a ship that is Docked on the East Coast of Texas

Yeah when I zoomed in on the satellite view I could see where they produce vans as well. Just down the road they make Freightliner semi's too. I didn't realize that Daimler owned them too.

Last I read they will not start builds on the 23 until all of the ordered 22 are completed.. Depending on what options you added to the truck, based on what I have read and past build times do to lack of parts you may not see that truck for another six to ten months...
