I bought mine at Rockauto. Don't forget to get the windage tray also. It's been on for a few years now, no issues. Gen 3 2500 4x4. Not bad to put in either, not sure if the 1500 is more difficult.

The wash it more often advice is crap. I own several car washes. My truck got washed a LOT and the pan on mine still rusted out. It’s poor quality by the manufacturer.
Apparently not underneath did it,washing the topside doesn't wash the oilpan, lol. Doesn't matter how many carwashes you own,if you're not going to get down on your knees and wash the bottom side of the truck,to keep it clean.Btw even your drive through wash does a pisss poor job of cleaning the oilpan.;) Salt has to sit on steel for quite awhile before you start to get rust through,it doesn't happen overnight.

Everyone, take note: Just crawl under there every 10-20K and look for rust spots (from NY salt), sand it lightly, wipe down with Brake-Kleen, and touch up the paint.

That would work except they rust from the inside out in my experience.

I've never seen one rusted from the inside out,but if that's what you've seen, that still is from lack of maintence. As you're letting the oil changes go way to long,if there's enough acid build-up in the pan to rust it out. You're also not staying on top of servicing things like the pcv. If your drives are that short to build up enough acid to rust the pan from the inside out,you better shorten your oil change intervals by alot.

Forming rust when covered with oil seems implausible, but I have seen Fords with pait adhesion issues inside the pan. Did you take any pics of one with rust inside?

Bingo. Acid buildup in the oil eating thru incredibly thin steel.

I don't see that as a a bad thing. Nice to have an obvious and easy to fix failure to make you aware of a problem that gets worse the longer you ignore it.

Never heard of any oil pan issues till reading this post. I do notice that all responses to this point & Op are from the northern areas and road salt comes to mind.

Just my observation :waytogo:
Yes, up here in western New York state I do occasionally hear of an oil pan or two rusting through, but I don't find it that common, either. The only other Ram I know of was a third gen with a rusted through pan. In those years the pans were actually two-piece, with an inner lining and (I believe) sound deadening material sandwiched between, so I've been told.

Transmission pans rusting too soon I have seen on a Durango, Dakota, and Ram at around 100k or so. I just swap them with Dorman which has drain plug option and spray some rustoleum on them and problem solved. Haven't had an oil pan do that yet, and hope never. Will say that the oem paint on both is cheap cheap and thin. No layers of paint but just a thin layer. Yes I know, it's not like paint job on your car. But dang, hit it with some off brand rust resistant paint a couple times for what we pay for a new vehicle! I drive my Toyota on the same roads, wash it just as much (or little!) And don't see the same level of rust on same components....just saying

I rinse the undercarriage of all my vehicles several times per year. I don't typically have any rust issues and my truck has only been in the snow once.

When I see rust starting in areas on my vehicles undercarriage, I wire brush and spot paint those areas to stop the progression. I've never had an issue keeping up with it this way. You can't compare vehicles from the 60s, 70s, 80s to today. The metal used was thicker back then and they still had rust issues, just not typically oil and trans pans

OP, I'd get the dorman pan, paint it with rustoleum gloss black professional and not give it another thought (besides for rinsing your undercarriage more)
