I have had problems with my adapter since I got it 4 months ago. Does not work at all now. Have done all the resets and trouble shooting with customer service countless times. Nothing solves the problem,
Have been told different reset directions. Some are insane. One was to drive 10 separate trips totaling 150 miles within 24 hours. I am sure that we have all seen MADE IN CHINA on the adapter. Junk! Seems that the customer service people can not understand "it does not work".

Maybe if everyone would cancel their Uconnect subscription something would be done to correct this problem.

I have called 16 times since January 1. I cannot remember how many times I have held the reset button in. I have done the 5,5,5 reset, and they claim everything is updated and the latest software. I CANNOT use the app to start my truck at work. I jump thru all the hoops they have had me do, and by the time I get home, everything works just fine. I called tonight, and the last "supervisor" didn't actually give me my trouble ticket. The gal I spoke with went back and couldn't believe they didn't do a trouble ticket in January. I told her I wanted to cancel then, since now I am supposed to remove adapter for another 48 hours....keep in mind, we have been -20 air temp during most of this ****storm of not working. I would be credited back $75 for unused months, but billed $90 for early terminations, EVEN though this thing has only worked for like one week so far. She extended my time for 60 days, but that is useless when NOTHING works!!!

I called last week. the Rep told me "as long as I see the wifi network on my phone remote start will work" My reply was well that will not happen when I am a out of wifi range for the adapter he said "yes anywhere in the world you should see that". My reply was "I'm not sure you understand how wifi works". The rep then went on to show me he can (and so can I with the app) lock and unlock my doors with the key on....Super usefull. Still unable to actually use the app to start my truck when out of Key fob range. I need to call Uconnect customer service again when my patience can handle it.

I have issues with this too, I think. I started using the adapter and it worked just fine. I mainly use the uconnect service so the text messages I receive on my android phone will come through the radio so I can respond to them as well. I do also use the app to start my truck from my shop. I can't use android auto because the USB date connection in the center console doesn't connect to the radio. For this reason I can't update the radio either.
Anyway, about 2 weeks ago when trying to respond to a text I had just received from my wife the radio responded that the function I was trying to use was unavailable. I have an active Uconnect subscription. I noticed the Uconnect icon on the touch screen wasn't blue and was greyed out with a circle and slash through it. I unplugged the dongle and plugged it back in. After a while it lit up blue with a 1x nect to the icon and 1 blue bar. Text messages could still not be sent out but I could receive them and listen to them through the truck radio. I tried the reset on the dongle and now all 3 lights are blue with one constantly flashing indidcating it is trying to connect. Its very frustrating. I haven't tried calling Uconnect yet because I haven't had the time since I work 6 days a week 10-12 hours a day. Is anyone else having this same issue or know a work around. I have a galaxy s9 phone, 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the 8.4 radio.
Another thing that has been happening recently is the Uconnect app is constantly telling me a vehicle health report is available. Multiple times a day. Another one is that Uconnect sends me an email saying my CEL is on a detected a problem. The issue is my CEL never comes on.

Just wondering. When I first got my 2015 using Apple, I did need to use uconnect service in order to send/receive text messages. But since, using Siri, and long pressing "Talk" button (top left on the steering wheel), I can ask Siri to read my text message, she will then ask me if I want to respond, and confirm my message before sending. Have you tried doing that with Google Assistant (you just have to have bluetooth connected) and long pressing the voice talk button?

If I keep my sound on, on my phone, I will get audible notifications when messages come in (I also have an apple watch, so I get the notification on my wrist), so I am not 100% sure you will be notified that you have a message. But for saving the monthly fee for uconnect, it may be worth a shot.

Hi JPT, I will give that a try. The weird thing is I can receive texts and the truck will read them to me, I just can't said. It tells me data connection is not available and to press the uconnect button to sign up for uconnect service. I already am paying for uconnect. I will try your idea with google assistant and see if that works.

Yeah, you have to talk to Google assistant, not the truck. The way I'm talking about it, you aren't using the stereo for anything other than to be the BT microphone and speakers. If you short press the Talk button, you are interacting with the stereo, and that will try to process your voice commands in the stereo. Long pressing triggers your phone's voice commands and lets your phone do the processing, which is your goal.

When uconnect stereos first came out, Siri and Google Assistant didn't really handle voice to text. Our stereos didn't even come with Siri/Google Assistant buttons, it was during a uconnect software update that added the long press to prompt your phone's assistant to listen for voice commands.

I long press the talk button and tell Siri to "Open Garage Door" and my phone will trigger MyQ to open the door, I can do this to close it, or check the stats of the door.

I can do this in my wife's 2008 Audi A4 as well, trying to use the Audi's (or any car's) voice commands are TERRIBLE, phones do it WAY better.

I tried using Google Assist for textinmg and while it works it is just more hands on than I would like it. I talked to someone at Uconnect yesterday and was basically told I'm SOL with being able to use the truck radio to send and receive text messages. With the 3G towers being shut down this feature is just going away. As of right now the button on the steering wheel to enable the mic is useless to even have. This whole thing just doesn't make sense when it comes to vehicle safety and hands free driving. I have no idea why FCA thought this was just acceptable to end this service. I can use Google Assistm, which I never do, to send texts but now I actually have to handle the phone while driving to short press the home button to activate it. Then if I ask it to send a text to someone that I have multiple numbers for I have to select that number. I know, sounds like 1st world problems but when you're used to a particular feature and it goes away without a comparable replacement it just sucks.

With Siri, I have always listening on. So while I can use the long press button, I can just say "Hey Siri" and start the process hands free.

There is a learning curve to using the phones assistant, but once you get it, it becomes easier. Oh, and it's free...

I came across this thread today as referenced from another about my attempt to activate the AT&T hotspot that I have in my 2018 Ram 1500 Quad Cab. I couldn't figure out why it was no longer accepted as compatible with the AT&T vehicle hotspot service. I'd heard about this T-Mobile dongle as an alternative, but -- yeesh -- this sounds worse.

Are most folks in this thread driving 2017 and older vehicles? I thought my 2018 was largely spared from the 3G retirement, but according to one of the senior people on the board, devices that SUPPORT (not use) 3G were part of blacklisting by AT&T, including the radio in my truck.

Yes those in this thread have the unconnect access which was sprint 3g so was loved to T-Mobile and the dongle. You should have ATT I think on the newer rigs and they call it SiriusXMguardian I believe. Here is the breakdown.

The good news is apparently I'm not the only one with the 4G adapter problems. The bad news is Uconnect customer service hasn't helped me at all resolving it. I have been dealing with them for 6 weeks, have tried the update with them on the phone at least 20 times, have done the removed for 48 hours step, and still the adapter won't update. My real frustration is that you can only get to a second-tier service rep and no higher. Then all they want to do is repeat the same steps over and over. I have tried to get them to send me an updated adapter, but they act as if I own the only one in existence! They promise to call me back but never have. They claim to be working on my trouble ticket, but I am always starting from step one. There has to be a way to resolve this through Ram / FCA and bypass what has to be the WORST customer service I have ever dealt with through Uconnect. I told the rep I was talking to today that I couldn't design a worse customer service department than they currently have!

It is a joke. The fact they used sprint is a joke. The fact they suck with knowing anything is a joke. The fact they charge $99 for a year then $90 to cancel when it doesn’t work and cannot cancel without a fee until November. It has never worked from day one as a remote start. I bought a viper unit had it installed and will cancel this crap and never give them another dime. I hate Ram support in general and serious thought twice about buying another Ram. I did it for the Cummins.

Has anyone been able to get the 4G adapter updated? I've tried the update 10 different times, but no luck. On the 8.4 app section, it says that I'm not subscribed. I'm paying the $9.99 a month. Only thing works is find my vehicle and the 2GB hotspot.

It is my understanding that the adapter will never make the head unit work. It only makes the remote unlock and remote start if you had that and the wifi work. It is a crap solution.

Makes sense. I thought they were going to use the hotspot connected to 8.4. Auto companies are so behind on tech, they wouldn't be able to do it. It's only things they can control over the OBD port.

I get angry with how bad they missed they missed the mark on the solution. I have been tempted to open up the radios and figure out how to redo the setup to work on Verizon from the radio itself but I am sure the servers are toast too.
