Hey All,

Placed an order today for a BigHorn (Crew,V8,4x4) over a Laramie. The reason is, the only black wheels on offer for the Laramie are with the Night Edition and they are 22s. The Off-Road Package on the 22 models only has silver/chrome wheels. No longer back wheel.
- I have a hard time getting a truck with 22in wheels, it seems counterproductive to the reason for a truck.

My thought process here is that I can save around 5K going with a BigHorn Backcountry and get almost all of what the Laramie offers. Here is what I would be giving up by going with the BigHorn Backcountry over the Laramie:

- Auto High Beam Headlamp Control
- Rain Sensitive Windshield Wipers
- 19 Speakers
- Ventilated Seats
- Heated Second Row Seats
- Memory Seat
- Power Passenger Seat
- Reclining Rear Seat
- Sport Hood
- Full Leather
- Remote Tailgate Release with touch of a button
- Wheel Fender Flares

Here is my build attached:

It's interesting to see the things people are willing to give up. For me, with the exception of the remote tailgate release and the wheel well flares, everything on your list is what I would consider deal-breakers. But then again I bought a Limited because I wanted as many goodies as I could get. I am glad to see they are offering the premium lighting option for Big Horns again. Halogen reflectors in general suck, but the ones Ram uses are the worst I've ever tried.

I will also say that I've never let wheel options be the deciding factory in a vehicle purchase. It's too easy to just change them. I liken it to deciding not to buy a house because you don't like the color of the wall paint. One of my first mods was to replace the stock 22's with 18" black Rebel wheels.

I get it. Everyone has what is important to them.

Hard choice but for me to pay another 5k for just the luxury options listed above, just didn’t make sense.
IMO - The 11 speaker system is not that much different, ventilated seats didn’t do much cooling compared to other vehicle I’ve owned, the fender flares I can install myself for under $200, I can open the bed myself and it is has dampers so it’s easy enough, auto wipers and highbeams aren’t that important to me. The sport hood has all fake vents and just blocks your view.

I just couldn’t justify those options for the cost. Anything else I’m missing in the difference of Bighorn and Laramie?

So...if you build the Laramie Night Edition online, then add the off road package, the wheels drop from 22s to 20s. At least that's what happens for me on the builder website, and why the truck I'm buying in a month (from military auto source) has the 20s vs 22s.

I tried that too. The dealer said the online configuration tool is off. The black 20in wheels don’t come with that vehicle any longer. Only polished. All builds in 2022 are polished only.

Weird, the build sheet for my 2022 1500 laramie night edition definitely says 20X9 cast aluminum black wheels. I have the off road and tow pkgs. Personally, I like the look of the 22s better (I'm 6'4 " so will have no issues getting in...and my 5'4" wife can use the running board), but am ok with the 20s.

When did you place the order?

So, mine is already built. I am buying thru Military Auto Source (AD Air Force statione in Korea right now), and I got a late start on ordering a custom build (long story...but I ordered an F150 Tremor in Feb, but production delays means it won't be ready when I need it), so decided to pick from what they have in stock/already in production. I ended up picking a 2022 Laramie Night Edition w/5.7 eTorq, 6'4" bed, tow pkg, off road pkg, in diamond black crystal, with the giant-ass sunroof. It's currently in CT, but will be delivered to me in WA for when I get off the rotator to drive to my next duty station in NC.

Maybe the earlier production is why it still came with 20s?

Pretty sure you meant 9 speaker Alpine system since there isn't an 11 speaker choice. I've had both systems, and to me, the HK system has a much cleaner sound. Opinions on this system have been mixed though.

That's why they have different trim level choices. So people can choose to spend less and have fewer options. One other thing that comes to mind is the keyless proximity entry that's not available on Big Horns. My fob almost never leaves my pocket.

FYI...wheel size doesn't directly affect ride height. It's tire diameter that matters. Stock tires on 20 and 22 inch wheels are both about 32 inches in diameter. In fact, the 20's are actually slightly larger than the 22's (32.1" vs 31.9"). It's the ORG that affects ride height, by adding 1 inch to the ride height.

NorthEast4x4 - I support your decision as I would not want many of these add-ons even if they were offered for free. I just ordered a new Tradesman for that reason.

The 2019 PW I just bought, has the heated and cooled seats. Those are fantastic. When its 90 degrees outside, you walk out of work, remote start your rig, sit in those cooled leather seats. Kinda nice. You actually don't need the AC with your back and ass cooled off. Lol. I work in a paper mill where it is hot year round.

I never had the ventilated seats till this truck so I never would have asked for them but they are really nice on hot days. mine also has the sport hood with the fake louvers. it doesnt matter to me if it not functional. I like the look of it and it came as part of a package that was already on the truck when I bought off the dealer's lot. besides, plenty of cars and trucks have unneeded decorative stuff like the spoilers and hood scoops on the several z-28's I owned over the years.
