Hi,
I am looking for a project, and looking for advice on model years to consider rebuilding. I am narrowing in on a 2nd Gen Cummins 2500, automatic, 4 wd, opening rear doors, 6 1/2 or 8 ft box.
This DEF nonsense is to be avoided.
Computers are over rated, the minimum computer stuff is the best in my opinion.

I guess, go with OBD 2... eliminates anything before 1996.

The opening rear doors on the cab mean 1998 or up, that eliminates anything less than 1998.

IF 1998 and later, that means a VP44 pump I think, as long as its 1998.5 model year. How about the P pump- 1998 to 1998.5 model years.

Let the discussion start!

Thanks in advance

I would want a P pump truck. They are very robust and easy to make power if that's your thing.

Just did some reading... seems like you need to understand how to setup the P Pump, which is mechanical, vs the VP pump which has a lot of electronics involved.. I don't need tons of HP, I just want reliable and pulling power. I am trying to stay away from electronics, computers, etc.. Seems like P pump, even capped at 500 hp , is more than enough. I know its overkill, I have a 4500 lbs travel trailer and want to tow around, without worrying about hills. I may end up with a much bigger trailer down the road.
Thanks for the feedback
