Just for another opinion I have used 87 without ethanol in my 97 with 5.9 since new and have never had an issue. When pulling a load I always went to 91 or 93 without ethanol. The truck has always ran great and was happy on 87.

When they forced corn gas on us my mileage dropped 15% or slightly more. It sucks having to subsidize farmers to drive ,our work vehicles. one of the biggest scams ever ,in my opinion.

Manual calls for 87, I run 87 in my 6.4. Doesn’t matter if I’m towing my 10k travel trailer or not.

Well, I will really throw a wrench into the works and I know a lot of people don’t agree, that’s fine everyone can have their own opinion. I had my Mustang Dyno tuned for 91 octane. But I purchase 87 octane, and throw a bottle of octane booster in as well. My car never misses a lick, power is excellent, economy is good and my wallet is happy. I buy my booster online, so it does add $5/tank. But at 33 gallons in the truck that’s .15c per gallon. Far cheaper that even mid grade gas

I picked up a ‘13 Ram 1500 Laramie with a 5.7 and 153K on the clock about a month ago. I first ran 87 in it and was seeing 12.5mpg around town. I ran 2 tanks of 92 with no significant change in power or mileage. I’m back to 87 and living with the mileage I get. Six speed trans with a 3.92 rear end.

Not sure what to make of it, but I just turned 10,000 miles in my ‘22 1500 Laramie, 5.7 etorque, 4x4 and after virtually every refill showing between 15-16 mph all around and 10-13 towing our 5,000 lb. travel trailer, we started out on Monday with a full tank, drove from home at 2180 ft up to Lake Tahoe at 6,500 feet and back home, then another 125 miles to Sacramento and back home.

The mileage readout is sitting at 19.3 mpg.

Maybe 10k miles throws a switch. Or, maybe the gas predictor is on the fritz.

Vancouver hit $2.34 a litre.
Have a g granddaughter working out there, That city has always been a bit off.
In Saskatchewan,we are about $1.80+/ liter.
I always run regular gas /87
I have used better when -30 or gas in the generator that sits for months at a time

No worries, once the $40 billion aid package makes it to Ukraine, then "...everything is gonna be all right..."
That still will not fix that we export more oil than we import. Only about 3% of russian oil imported is crude. How about a law we are not allowed to export our oil and use it for ourselves first? That way it won't matter what other countries pay for oil.

I went back and forth between 87 and 89 when I fist got my 5th gen 5.7L no e-torque and noticed that for flatland highway driving with no load there was no noticeable difference in the feel. I did this tracking in 2019 and did a miles per dollar comparison and the difference was about 3 cents in favor of 87. But my daily commute to work is 22 miles with 1 stop light and 1 stop sign and a ton of hills. The same comparison there was about 4 cents in favor of 89. I took a trip with my trailer 28" and about 6200 lbs and this went to 9 cents in favor of 89. Now since I rarely do flatland highway driving with no load I have just stuck with 89. I figured even though the prices have gone up the difference between 87 and 89 then and now is still $0.20 so percentage wise the miles per dollar should still favor the same direction but possibly slightly more.

Yeah I have nothing but 10% ethanol around here....
Whether E-0 is locally available depends on local clean air rules. E-0 is not permitted for on road vehicles in many major metros. Where I live in rural upstate NY, E-0 is available at many stations and at marinas.

To find it go to: https://www.pure-gas.org/ and then call the listing to confirm they have it and how they sell it. In areas where its not sold at gas stations, you can usually find it at motorsports shops, where it's often marked "for racing purposes only" (it can be in 5 gallon to barrel size containers!), lawn and garden supply and repair shops, and home centers and hardware stores (in containers up to a gallon) for use in "older" small engines not designed for anything but E-0. If its motorsports racing gas, its usually high octane, 94 or higher. If at a gas station or marina, its octane can be anything from 85 (at high elevations) to 94.

If you own a boat you'd be a fool to ever use ethanol laden gas in it....

I found that using ethanol free gas when towing a 6,000# load with my old truck (19 Nissan Frontier w/ 4liter) raised my gas mileage about 5% (over E-10 gas). As my current Ram is a diesel, I don't have any idea if there is a similar effect in a Ram gas engine. I'd expect that E-0 gas would get better fuel mileage, especially if it was at 89 or better octane.

New here. I'm picking up my 22, 2500 6.4l this after noon and was reading the owners manual last night. It specifically says 87 and there is no mention of anything higher. Am I missing something or is this a change for 2022?

I run 93 octane Shell V-power. Not because I have delusions of the truck being faster but because I KNOW it burns cleaner making my engine last longer. Yes, price sting’s but we let the cheating ******** take the country without a fight so we have to take what comes with it.

Hello!

With these great gas prices we are experiencing! Has anyone switched to 87 octane from 89. I haven’t yet. I will next fill up! I never thought I would! But this is getting ridiculous!
Take care,
Matt
What brand ?

Not all stations are equal to begin with I stopped buying Chevron on the west coast a few years ago I’ll go to Costco for cheaper fuel but you should stay away from establishments that show a lack of customer loyalty.
My strategy is avoidance I let Purple Promise and Brown Do the driving when at all possible otherwise I just I use public transportation or hoof it.
Abstinence is next to godliness the fuel companies literally have us over a barrel and I refuse to participate.

89 non-ethanol bumped my MPG and made my trucks run smoother. First in my 17 5.7 and now in my 22 5.7 etorque. My neighbor said I was full of **** and said it was all in my head that I was being more mindful while driving. He is now running the same fuel in his GMC.

No, the manual for my 2018 2500 6.4 also says to use 87 octane and it's all I put in my truck.

The 6.4's in the HD trucks is lower compression then the 5.7's in the 1500's,and thus gets away with a lower fuel octane rating
