Hi everyone - never good timing to have truck problems, right?

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 6.7 deleted. Runs fine, no problems, and only at 50,000 miles. However, recently I have had recurring codes P00AF and P003A. I cleared them, but they come back with a check engine light usually about 3 days later. I also notice intermittent working of the exhaust brake.

I've done some searching here for what this is, and it looks like there are a few theories, with turbo fins being dirty being one of the frequent fliers.

My questions are: where, basically, should I start here? Is it worth doing it myself (I'm fairly busy but handy) or is this better handled by the dealer or a basic shop/diesel shop? Lastly, no limp mode, so if I need to drive this in the meantime, am I going to hurt it?

Thanks so much you all.

Matthew

Best case: Your turbo actuator is failing. There are several vendors of actuator, probably set you back $1k for parts. The dealer will hose you for much more although check for some special warranty that came out recently.

Other case: Your turbo is on its way out. 2nd gen swap time.

Thank you for the reply. That sounds no fun. But, a few questions - The best way to tell which is happening? Sounds like I can do that actuator myself since you referenced just the parts. But also, do you think there could be a warranty that covers it, even though I'm not the original purchaser?

I think your bigger hurdle, warranty wise, would be that your truck has been deleted.

Before throwing $1000 parts at the problem, I'd want some clarity. I'd do some more research. I'd get ahold of guys that have done Cummins turbos for a living, for a long time.

Back when mine died, the research told me that the way to find out was to remove the actuator. If the turbo could be easily actuated manually then the turbo was fine. If actuating the turbo manually was very difficult or seized then you had a more expensive choice to make.

Fortunately for me, mine was still under warranty so it was the dealers problem. My turbo was fine, they just replaced the overpriced mopar actuator with another overpriced mopar actuator. I left the diesel regular cab world soon after that.

$1000 parts are cheap in the Cummins world

Thanks for the info. I'm considering the Cheetah package. Its around $3k, but it solves the problem and the actuator and some turbo components are upgraded. Its hard to underestimate the value of being back on the road.
