I know this comment won't answer your question, but with what you're asking, this is where the new style multi-function tailgate would be of help ... I have one on my 2020 and it works great ...
Having said that, I would have to agree with 'retired' and just remove the tailgate ...

This is what I did with a 700# safe. Fairy easy to slide on and off this way it out fear of the tailgate collapsing. Tilt and slide. Peace of mind.

Yep tilt and grab the bottom and push. I load all sorts of stuff in the bed of my truck as I work out of it. Like I said before it's really not that much weight. It's how people load ATVs in the bed of they truck. Put ramps on to the tailgate and ride it up. 400-800lbs machine plus 200lbs rider.

Be careful when leaning against tailgate. Do not let excess weight be on inside of tailgate too long. I oil canned my 2020 gate by rolling a roll of carpet across it using a furniture dolly. Caved in about 1-1/2". Not visible from exterior. I covered over interior with .090 alum sheet. Might I suggest a few 2x6 leaned against the tailgate. Lean safe against them lift safe and 2x6 together, then slide safe on the 2x6 into bed. I did something similar with an old pump organ I had to move.

Pop the door off the safe, then load it you will be fine. Plus will a lot easier to load/unload with out the added weight of the door
This.

I've moved several, and take off the door before trying to move it to the truck. Once at the truck, remove the tailgate if you're concerned, lean the safe on the bed and lift. Slide the door next to it. Easy.

I think this should start off as “Hold my beer…” but seriously if 500 lbs scares you then just pay to have it delivered and bolted to your floor. Those guys have the experience to get it done quickly and “safely” pardon the pun. Happy wife and no broken pieces of your house.

Some safes you can remove the door and that makes it a lot less heavy and cumbersome to move. Easy for DIY.

Good luck

I would suggest looking at it from what the cost is should you damage the tailgate vs the cost of renting an open uhaul trailer? Small uhaul trailer is under $20 per day!!

In my area I can rent the 5x9 with ramp gate for $25 a day...... With tax, insurance, etc you'd be under $50. $50 to guarantee a damage free truck, worth it in my book.

Disclaimer: No I do not work for them, just tend to have had to use their services often........

Renting a small trailer would be the better option. If nothing else, handling and unloading would likely be easier.

That said, we moved a 550 lb. gun safe last year and my tailgate suffered no damage.

I weight 270# and my buddy is about 200. We sit on the tailgate with a cooler full of ice and beer quite a bit camping. I don’t see an issue.
