2022 RAM 2500 Diesel. had about 300 miles on it, towed for the 1st time, about 7000 lbs. After about 100 miles or so, it suddenly shifted into D4 and I got a warning message that it was now out of tow mode! I pulled over to the side of the road and turned it off, restarted after being off for about 30 seconds. Ran and towed fine the rest of the way, but the check engine light was on.
Scanned the code when I got home and got P0755 Shift Solenoid B. I shouldn't have, but I cleared the code and now the dealership won't even look at it unless it throws a code again.
Maybe I'm okay but I would feel a lot better if a Mopar mechanic would look at it.

Sorry to say that without it showing a code they can't do much for you, now days no code they will not even bother to look at it...

LOL

You were just waiting for that 299 miles to reach 300, so you could pull 7,000 pounds at 75 MPH

It may have been a bit early to tow that much for a long distance & possibly at an RPM that should be varied more

It may not have hurt the drive train at all, just keep a half an eye on the EVIC

With the Cummins, it's in the owners manual for breaking the engine to put the truck under a load.
Hopefully it was just a glitch and the OP won't have any more problems.

and the manual also wants 500 miles on the driveline gears before towing.

Thanks! What should I be looking out for besides a check engine light?

At the first start of the day, the computer does a Self Check.
You will notice that the Instrument Panel will have several lights that are lit up & then one by one they go out

As you drive, if any of those lights come back on, it is a sign that there may be an issue, if they stay on. You should stop by your local auto parts store & request that they hook up a Scan tool to your vehicle.
That tool will tell you if the vehicle has an issue that needs to be looked at by a mechanic or not

With a Crummy under the hood, watch your coolant and transmission temperatures. Unless something is wrong or painfully overloaded you really can't overwork a Cummins in a 2500 unless you beat it like a rented mule.

This information is not specific the 68RFE transmission but electronically controlled automatic transmissions in general. A shift solenoid fault code without an actual transmission symptom is probably an electronic glitch from the said system that controls it. I would drive the truck sensibly and work it when pulling/hauling and not worry about it unless it happens again, because it could have just been a fluke. As robust and hardy as these trucks are, their electronics can be a little finicky.

I do agree with this, but the feeling the OP had with his new RAM, just out of the box with check engine lights and issues, that pit in the stomach must have been huge. That or rage ha :)

Your truck did throw a code and you know what the code was. For your dealer to say they won't look at it till it throws it again is nonsense. Go to another dealer. This crap after sales service really needs to be dealt with by FCA. If it keeps up a lot of guys will quit buying RAM. They are great trucks but they still need service and a lot of you guys aren't getting it. Lucky for me, after a lot of trial and error with different local dealers, my current dealer is excellent, but all of them should be like mine.

My experience with codes is that they stay in memory unless the battery is removed or fails???? So I think your dealer should be able to see that code.

and the manual also wants 500 miles on the driveline gears before towing.

This is what the manual says.

ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
A long break-in period is not required for the
engine and drivetrain (transmission and axle) in
your vehicle.

Drive moderately during the first 300 miles
(500 km). After the initial 60 miles (100 km),
speeds up to 50 or 55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are
desirable.

While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration
within the limits of local traffic laws contributes
to a good break-in. Wide-open throttle
acceleration in low gear can be detrimental and
should be avoided.

There is a break-in period with a new engine and transmission and it is dumb to ignore this and start towing earlier. With my 2011 diesel 2500 the break-in period was 500 miles and with my 2022 gas 1500 truck it is 1000 miles.

Trucks from 2017 and later years have much tighter tolerances with the engines and so this is even more important.

Amazing that guys will spend $70,000 on a new truck and not bother to read the manual and then post their whiny complaints on forums.

Very helpful, thank you your majesty.
You have NO IDEA what the dealership told me when I asked them about towing. What, when, how.

If it is a stored code it will be in memory until the code is cleared manually, either by scan tool or disconnecting the battery.

This is what the manual says.

ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
A long break-in period is not required for the ...
You need to visit the manual's section under towing, towing requirements, and you will see this warning;

CAUTION!
• Do not tow a trailer at all during the first 500 miles
(805 km) the new vehicle is driven. The engine, axle
or other parts could be damaged.
• Then, during the first 500 miles (805 km) that a
trailer is towed, do not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h)
and do not make starts at full throttle. This helps
the engine and other parts of the vehicle wear in at
the heavier loads.
