Hello everyone,
Just checking if anyone has installed a 6.2L Hellcat oil pump on their 5.7 Hemi in their 1500? I was watching a former Hemi tech that indicated this Hellcat pump has a higher psi then the stock 5.7 pump which in turn can help with moving the oil to the cam/lifters. Searched out this pump online up here in Ontario and she at $176 Canuck. Seems worth the shot as I just did the cam/lifter/MDs delete gig and have to have cylinder 3 lifter replaced due to failure or install mistake (ticking had after install). I may just get this pump installed at the same time. Anyone do this swap?

Another option is the 6.4 Mopar# 5038398AE

I did the MMX melling Hellcat oil pump. Keep in mind, the hellcat pumps are designed for engines with the oil squirters so really cranks up the volume and pressure. In fact, it may be TOO high. Oil pressure that's too high can be bad also, it'll take away some horsepower and at extreme conditions/heavy loads can be detrimental for a lot of reasons. On my truck after a complete rebuild with a quality machine shop (new cam bearings, new mains, new crank) my pressures were all the way up in the 70-90 range at idle. After it broke in a bit, my idle pressure is about 50 and WOT about 75. I like it that way but it's a bit too high for some. You can get the 5.7 oil pump relief valve springs and install them in the hellcat high volume pump.

Will do, I was just thinking more along the lines of getting more oil to the cam/lifters at idle/low RPMs. Don’t know if I’ll go this way or not as I don’t know if there much of a difference or not.

Have Sean bump up your idle rpm to 700/750 Lyle, makes a hell'va differance in your oil pressure if your idle is another 100 to 150 rpm higher then stock

Sean had my idle around 800 or so and brought that down to about 650/700 at idle. Got the chop a little more. I should be good I guess.

Mines at 750. I have a digital gauge that I read through the OBD2 port, however accurate it is. But I agree with all of you 750-800 is better for the lifters at idle.

Think I will start making a winter Tune for the -40 weather with higher Idle and less chop and run it off 89 octane. Hours of idle time is on the horizon... lol...

So much good info on the HP Tuner forum on how to set stuff up is crazy. No need to even email anyone and wait.

Giving a bump to this. Sort of new information has come out from a seemingly smart tech who worked on them for 11 years has been to their "university" and has done the work including putting a Melling on and a Hellcat pump.

This video explains where he is coming from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkNOXWGXADM

But the bottom line is that he says the problem is not as much pressure particularly at high pressure but VOLUME at low pressure. And that is why idling is such a problem. And even other after market pumps do not address this while a Hellcat pump appears to be designed for more volume at both low and high pressure. Look at the 10 minute mark on the vid. He has another vid after this one where he puts it on.

I wanted to bump this thread because I find it very interesting that the this Dodge tech who has worked on hemi's a VERY long time feels the issue with the lifer's is lack of oil flow at low idle. He has done a few videos going into the specifics. Seems very knowledgeable on the stuff. He has even tested the stock pump vs Meling Pump vs Helcat pump. He feels the higher psi pump's will address the lack of lubrication to the lifters especially at lower rpm's especially idle where the issue really seems to be.
Here is a video where he tests the psi of the three different pumps installed in the same engine.
