Checking engine compartment today and seen the battery shield was all ripped up. Started looking with light and found a nest on the passenger side made with the shield cover plus. Chewed some of the wires also. Had problems with mustang before with chipmunks as they are around my yard. To big to park inside and have tried sprays, dryer sheets etc. Bait bars and a 20 ga works but don’t solve the problem Any ideas please

Are they getting a food source around your house somewhere? Bird feeders?

We had to stop with bird feeders because of chipmunks. They never got into our vehicles, but they burrowed under concrete steps, pads, etc and made a mess of things.

Just having bird feeders on the property is enough to create a problem with them unfortunately.

Where we live now, I'll see chipmunks collect fallen acorns from an oak or two around our yard, but it's not enough for them to set up shop in/around our house, garage, etc.

I had them bad once in CT. A small "hav a heart" trap baited with bird seed got all of them in about 3 days. They all got new zip codes.
LOL! I've done that too. I've still got a couple Havahart traps. I'd put the havahart in a storage tote with some air holes for the trip in the car in the event one of those buggers escaped. This was the days I didn't own a pickup.

Like I say, the only reliable way to for me to keep them away was keep bird seed away. It sucks because I always enjoyed bird feeders, but it's humming birds only now.

squirrels cost main wiring harness for engine compartment, and air bag wiring harness. Ate thru fuel line on top of my wifes gas tank. I bought the rectangular animal traps from amazon and loaded with peanut butter. Insane how fast, and how many squirrels I caught. I relocated them out in the woods, and now I keep some cinder blocks under my truck with those green blocks of poison inside of them.

Service tech broke my front windshield, service manager said no he didnt, we had it out pretty good. When he started shaking he broke down, and said he'd replace with cheap windshield so we had it out again.

Over $4k damage that thankfully insurance covered.

I would try trapping them. I wonder if your truck is tall enough to slide one of these under it. Screenshot_20220529-180031_Chrome.jpg

Timely thread for me. My wife's 09 Eclipse convertible sits all winter under the carport with no problem.... Until this year. When I pull it out to get it ready to go, there are a ton of gremlins. Remote locks don't work, SRS light on, sound system has fail to com message, A bushel of walnuts in the trunk, and yeah, that smell. Got some sorted, went to install a new radio Saturday so I wanted the top down....nope. Somebody chewed a hole in at least one of the 16 or so hydraulic lines that run the top. I was at the point of fark it, sell it and bail, but I found a hydraulic line repair kit I'm going to try. No bird feeders at all, but all kinds of walnut, oak and hickory trees. I'm beyond humane and gentle, Caddyshack mode is full on but failing so far.

My neighbors had that problem here in the New Mexico mountains. They put partially filled buckets of water near the vehicles up against something so the little craps could get into for water, but not get out. Works for mice also. We are in a pretty dry part of the country so water is hard to find for them. May not work where you live

Same problem here! They chewed thru my 4 wheel drive harness which was over $250. Then I put an Ultrasonic/strobe pictured after I found a nest on the front corner underneath the hood on the battery side. And they did use the battery protector felt to make the nest. So I have that and I also sprinkled cinnamon all over the felt that was left. So far so good. But now I am using the truck almost everyday which doesn’t give them a chance to do anything. So who the heck knows! Do I really need to keep the felt around the battery? Otherwise I will take it out.E0EB3086-16A1-421A-B583-97474C268383.jpeg

I found a LOT of seeds in the air cleaner box under the filter element. Have no idea how they got in there.
