Only way to do an oil cooler is with a filter relocate. Some trucks have a oil to water sandwich style cooler above the oil filter already. Mine does. It helps to heat the oil faster at startup and the oil can’t go to far above coolant temp. I also use a filter relocation kit and my filter gets airflow across it which helped bring temps down. I’m not sure by how much since I did it about the same time as my 190° tstat which brought my oil temp down too.

Personally i think you'd be better off doing a filter relocation instead of an oil cooler. Adding an oil cooler will cut down on your oil pressure and flow, and the 5.7 is already flow limited. If you plan on adding the Hellcat oil pump, then go for it,but with the stock pump i wouldn't reconmend one. You could step up to a dual filter relocation kit and run either a 180 or 190 coolant thermostat, and that'll help bring your oil temps down. I run a 180 thermostat and dual filters, and my oil temps very rarely get over 200F,i have to be really beating on the truck to get the oil temps above 200F.

i have the same factory oil cooler above the filter it dose nothing when im doing 90 on the freeway, coolant temp at 190 engine oil shoots up to 240~245..i have to slow down to let it cool off..looks like oil relocation kit is the easiest to do..

nice duel setup man do you remember the part# ? ill just add a small heat exchanger inline. shouldn't mess up pressure to much thanks

Do you have the active grill shutters? I’ve never seen oil temps above 225 even when I was bone stock. I’m lifted and 35s with a 190 tstat and even hauling stuff and running 75-80 on the highway my temps won’t go above 208°. Normal driving my oil temp is 196-203° depending on outside temp

Let me guess, you have 3.92 gears, 90 mph and 3.92's don't go together worth ****,lol.

LOL what do you mean? Other than actually being able to see the gas gauge literally drop before my eyes, I find the motor to purr nicely at that speed :)

But maybe I didn't stay at those high speeds long enough after watching the gas gauge - and I have the 32 gallon tank!

haha

I have a dumb question.

The high oil temp at high speeds, is that an 8 speed only thing? Will my 545RFE/4.10 do the same thing?

W1, I wish the bottom of my truck looked that good. My penmanship is better tho. lol

When i switched from 3.21's to 3.55's,my oil temps went up by a fair bit at 85+ mph, that's when i started playing with oil filter relocation kit's.I originally started with a single filter kit,and my oil temps went down a bit, then i switched it up to a dual filter kit,and that's when my oil temps dropped back to where they were more to my liking. The only way to see what your oil temps would be with 4.10's at 90 mph,is to find someplace where you could run at 90 mph for 30 miles or more. My local track is 155 miles away, and i use our local freeway to get there, which has a 70 mph speed limit, but friday afternoons you have to be running 85 or more mph to stay with traffic, (i've actually had the cruise plugged in at 95 mph for the whole trip more then a few times),with the dual filter set-up and 80F ambient temps,my truck will run right around 198 on oil temps with a 180 thermostat and no middle shutters on the active grill shutters. It also helped when i switched from the factory Sport grill to the more open honeycomb grill.

Assignment accepted. In the interest of science and for the comfort of wisdom for the masses, I will drive 90. At least for a short bit on the interstate.

The faster my truck goes, the happier it is.

i removed the pos grill shutters one week after ownership installed two pusher fans in its place.. look at this 20 minutes on the freeway i look down this is my temps ...

Your best option might be to move out of the left lane, over to the right lane and slow down. Gotta love them 3.92's at high speeds, lol. If you're outdoor temp is 108F,you might want to stick a 180 thermostat in it for the summer temps, then swap your original 203 thermostat back in for the cooler months. For all it takes to swap t-stats on the trucks,it's an option to consider, along with slowing down,or replacing your 3.92's with 3.21's. The differance in rpm between 3.21's and 3.92's at 90 mph would be like slowing down to 74 mph. The same rpm you turn at 90 mph with 3.92's would put you at 110 mph with 3.21's

Maybe remove the 2 pusher fans. They may be more of a restriction than help. I have the v6 fan and have never seen temps that high. My trans reached 196 as the highest I ever saw after a 3 hour trip on the interstate doing 80mph. 3.92 gears lifted and 35s. I would swap to a 190° tstat as it’s the best of both worlds in my opinion. Cooler than stock. But not so much cooler that the heater feels cooler in the winter (but I’m in Florida. Lol). My rpm’s are right around 2,000 rpm at 75 if I remember correctly

Maybe I’m the odd one but I’ve never had issues with the heat. Maybe it’s my 35s? since my final drive ratio is around 3.55-3.73 with my setup compared to stock. Even stock I think my highest oil temp noted was 230° with the AGS and stock tstat in the middle of summer with mid to upper 90s

Oil temps on the Hemi seem to be directly tied to engine rpm Khris. The faster the engine is spinning, the higher the oil temps will be. Slowing the engine rpm down,is usually the best option to lower oil temps, which means switching to taller gears,or actually driving slower. I agree his pusher fans don't do much for lowering his oil temps though. One option that hasn't been brought up,is to run a totally seperate stand alone thermostatically controlled oil cooler, that ties into the oilpan and uses an electric oil pump to circulate the oil in the pan through a stand alone cooler, totally bypassing the stock oiling system. Years ago,you used to be able to buy finned aluminium oilpans that supposedly helped with oil temps, but i don't know if anybody makes a finned aluminium oil pan for the trucks, similiar to what the cars use.The car 5.7's and 6.4's use a finned aluminium oil pan.

This is one reason I don't believe a shutter delete is effective. Look at his coolant temp, that's the temp I see unloaded, and that's the same temp I see pulling my 6000 pound RV for a few hours at 65 mph.

My oil will sit at 230 while towing, or 220 when not towing. But towing up a large incline while holding 65 mph it spikes to 250, so I'd agree that it's RPMs that are causing the heat.

I'd like to see more discussion on the tstat controlled oil cooler. Part of me still wants to go with that approach, I'd like to know what kind of PSI drop we'd see if we installed that.

My build sheet specs include "Heavy Duty Engine Cooling".

If I were to install a thermostatically controlled oil cooler I would have to remove the stock oil to water heater exchanger to promote higher oil pressure. And I know heat and rpm are directly related. I ordered the factory nipple to delete the heat exchanger if I ever go that route. And I think running a small oil cooler like a single row style like a ps cooler or double row should help reduce oil pressure loss and can be run right at the bottom radiator support bar
