I've seen a couple of threads on tires, but I haven't seen anyone address any tires that are good for over the road traveling. I do a lot of driving on the interstate and looking for some smooth running tires. I've got 275 by 60 on mine.

Michelin Defender LTX M&S are the best riding tires that money can buy but they are expensive.

you might not know it by looking at them but Toyo RT's are incredibly smooth and quiet

I can't even hear my Michelin Defenders, except on places where the Highway Dept. of different States have done test patches, using different finishes on the Concrete Road.

There is one such test patch on Interstate 10, east bound, about 20 miles from El Paso.
When i drive on that test patch, it sounds like a knobby off road tire is driving right next to me, surprises me every time.

There is another place in San Diego, on South Bound 805, EXIT 18, Murray Ridge Road / Phyllis Place
There is a series of test patches in the concrete, my tires make noise there too

The Michelins are also great at gripping the road, even when it is damp

Like the Defenders very much in all conditions except snow and ice. OP appears to be in Chicago. I tow on snow covered frozen roads and lakes in the winter and the Defender is not great there. Far better than the original GY SRA's, but not great.

Defenders by far. Tried some Falken WildPeaks. A bit louder but, a tad better in the snow.

Another Michelin man. Just had the defenders put on last week. So quiet and rides like a Cadillac

Pirelli Zero Scorpions AS III here, amazing ride and handling! 60k mile warrant too.
Ran NITTO's last two sets, these were only $150 more for the set so it was a no brainer.
Definitely a little wider than the NITTO's at the same size because of the construction of the tire, very squared off shoulder and sidewall.
