Greeting all. Recently purchased a new to me 2011 ram 2500 6.7. Had a quick couple of questions about the steering.
1.how much play is acceptable in the steering wheel? Currently I'm at about 2.5-3 inches of slop.
2. The steering box is in a terrible position to see if the adjustment screw is Allen, flat or Phillips.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Greeting all. Recently purchased a new to me 2011 ram 2500 6.7. Had a quick couple of questions about the steering.

The steering box in these rams can be horrible. They produce a lot of frame flex and slop but a steering box brace can prolong steering box replacement. Also the steering wheel shaft has u joints and the bushings wear out there I'd repair kits for its just a little sleeve that is added to the warped collar. Just a FYI you might have better response if you post in the right generation of truck. You posted this in the 5th gen trucks and needs to be in the 4th gen. Most parts are Similar but they change little things that could be generation specific.

I think I remember hearing that 2" of slop in the steering wheel is maximum allowed amount. Any more and you will want to adjust it. Probably just a band-aid until you actually replace the steering box itself.
