The only towing the truck did was getting a boat to the boat yard. It was maybe 10 miles. He did that twice. Other than that it was never used to haul much.

Little story.... When I got the truck running I looked in the bed under the tonneau cover and there were 3 mountain bikes in there. At the end he was getting dementia and he was starting to scavenge. One of the bikes has seaweed all over the front rim and they were all messed up so I just gave them to my friend who does scrapping.

Oh, I plan to Fluid Film the undercarriage as well.

Best regards,

-Mike

- I mean how often are you so deep into the throttle that any additional air flow is beneficial, unless you are racing it.
Therein lies the dichotomy..... The throttle is THE limiting factor of the intake of air into the pump AKA the engine. Today's stock air filters in factory form are over engineered for the WOT needs of said engine. Most, but not all vehicles have resonance chambers along the pathway from the air filter to the throttle body. These offer almost no resistance/ difference in the amount of air rushing into the engine, but do offer a harmonic chamber to rid the intake noise akin to a vacuum cleaner.
An engine benefitting from "free flow" induction must have a larger throttle body, modification to it's valve configuration and/or cylinder head combustion chamber for intake free flow to matter; and the exhaust must have lower restriction as well in order to insure that the pump (engine) can pass more air per second (more efficiently) through it.

I find that I get better MPG with a stock filter vs. a "free flowing" drop in filter.
On the 5.7, even the throttle body isn't a limiting factor - more so the cam shaft and cam timing.

I hate the vacuum cleaner sound that other filter systems make - all I can think of is "I must have a huge vacuum leak!" lol

The engineers know way more than the layperson/ Bubba who thinks that, because cousin Fred "felt" that his truck/car got faster due to air filter, etc. mods, his necessarily will. The resources available to the manufacturer in engineering and R&D, far, far outstrip the resources of air filter or other "performance enhancing" manufacturers.

Way back when I was young, I had a 1970 Impala 4 door hardtop with a 350 and TH 350 with a 2 barrel carb. It got a whopping 12 or so MPG on the highway. I bought a used 4 bbl intake and Q-jet combo and retrofitted them. The next trip that I took, I saw MPG's of 18-19. Being young, I put a "performance" air filter on it, and it sounded like a vacuum cleaner when the throttle was floored. Later, I got tired of the sound and refit the stock air filter/ housing assembly, including the heat riser tube on it. Mileage didn't change one bit! Neither did performance.

Marketing is why guys buy a lot of these products, and some really do work, but almost all of them come at a cost in the long run to reliability/ durability.

When I replaced my factory air box with name brand aftermarket, my engine actually stays in eco mode more than it did before. Which I believe means better fuel economy. I am fixing to remove the mechanical fan in lieu of an electric fan.
