So I've spent 3 months trying to get a 2500 or 3500. First 2500 I put money down on back in March is still sitting in Saltillo. I gave up on that one. Got my money back and put it down on one that's actually on a train, due in a couple weeks. Money is refundable. They wanted MSRP on both, I can live with that. Another dealer just called and just got delivered a 3500 dually which I prefer anyway for towing my 5th wheel. Problem is they want 12000 over MSRP. I don't really need the truck for a while. With as hard as they are to get is 12000 worth it? I'm thinking about just waiting and ordering a 23. But this 3500 has everything I want on a truck. Just would like some feed back before I jump.....or not.

Thanks for any input

Dave Smith is the dealer that couldn't get my original truck out of Saltillo. And they told me that all incoming ones are spoken for. I know that's way high but I haven't been able to find a 3500 on the west coast. I just needed a reality check, you guys gave it to me, thanks. Patience is a virtue I guess, I'll keep looking.

One issue is that Dealerships try pulling a Fast one.
They will claim a vehicle is in Inventory, when that vehicle is actually Transit, which means that it is built & sign out, but not necessarily on a train or truck yet, or it could be actually almost at the dealership

I was looking for trucks in WA at one point...seems like dealers are marking up vehicles like crazy, particularly the premium and/or harder to get vehicles A $72k F150 Tremor was marked up $6k. An $80k raptor was marked up an extra $15k due to "market value". I would say to walk away from the 3500...dealers will continue with the outlandish markups if people continue to pay it.

Just don't settle, get the right one for you. We don't have information on the specs of your 5th wheel, but these threads are filled with the tales of people who bought a 2500 and now are unable to safely tow their trailer. Get the right tool for the job; short of swapping 3500 underpinnings into a 2500 you can't add payload capacity to a 2500.

And agree with prior posts, people have to stop paying through the nose for vehicles. Prices will drop with high gas costs and if people would just settle down a bit. Not speaking to people who have no choice due accident, etc.

I bought my 22 from DS, it was the one of the few trucks coming off assembly line without a deposit on it ( well one that had what I wanted less 2 items) I too had been looking for a truck for a few months, I had looked at just about every Ram dealers stock west of the Mississippi river, unable to find a 2500 under 85K, based on what I could find out my truck was ordered in Oct of 21, it rolled off the line in Jan 22 it took with just shy of 9 weeks to reach dealers lot, 3 weeks it was sitting in Spokane Rail yard waiting to be unloaded & released... Right now 6 month minimum wait time seems to be about normal due to some parts being in short supply..

Thanks everyone for the replies. So I used the link Dinky sent, I had been on it before, there was nothing around me I was interested in but found one in Portland would consider. 87 on the Ram site, went to the dealers site, you guessed it, marked up to 96. I'm done looking. The 5th wheel is where it needs to be for a year so I'm just going to order what I want and need in a 23 when they open up the ordering. Hopefully get it for Christmas. I think ****** ir right, with the way things are going they'll be having rebates up the ying just to get rid of them.

Again, HELL NO. I ordered my 22, it took six months to get it with six weeks of that sitting in Baltimore MD waiting for a rig to bring it to Pittsburgh. I paid over $4000.00 under MSRP. The wait was worth it I got what I wanted with the equipment I needed to pull my 5th wheel as well as the color I preferred. Check with the dealer you ordered the original truck to see if he has had any interest in it because it was probably to late to cancel and he will be getting the truck anyway. I don't think you can order a 23 until July. Good luck!

So only pay the $12,000
So I've spent 3 months trying to get a 2500 or 3500.

So only pay more than MSRP if you really need the vehicle ASAP and cannot function without it. There may be such situations to warrant such a decision, but they are likely few and far between. Otherwise, there are many other dealers out there... keep looking. There is another dealer much like Dave Smith (maybe almost as large) that was said to be competitive with what Dave Smith was advertising. The place was also in the Northwestern US, maybe Idaho. I cannot recall the name.

The 3500 is hard to get (especially diesel) because they're so popular with hotshot drivers. With the way the trucking industry is going, there's probably going to be a lot of them going broke soon. Freight rates are going down as fuel prices are going up. Some guys are already parking them because they basically have to pay to haul someone's freight for them. I'm guessing that in 6 months there'll be a glut of them on the market and the prices will drop like a rock. Think $12,000 UNDER MSRP instead of over. Just my opinion as a truck driver.
