How did you like the 9 drive and interaction?
i like it a lot and i was one of the ones that said it was stupid- it makes the truck drive so much better. one thing i didnt think about is the enhanced shifting since more throttle is biend applied, the gears are held longer and that really helps with drivability

Most of the “Cold Air” intakes systems are just money grabbers. When you read the specs and fine print some will learn there isn’t any gain until over 3000rpm. Most modern truck Rarely get that high. Some of the outputs-for the cost-are useless. Unless you have lots of $$ and do it all wouldn’t waste my $$. Just my .2 cents.
Rarely get above 3k rpm’s?? If you rarely get above 3k rpm’s I don’t think you need to mod your engine lol I have 2 stages lol 2krpms @ 80 mph and 6k rpm’s @ gtfotheway lolol

yup if you never get over 3k rpms might as well sell the gasser and get in line for an electric ****box. after 3k rpms is where the hemi works its magic. makes me smile every time! :party36:

If you notice most of the tests of cold air or even the so-called 'performance' air filters usually do a timed performance evaluation and never a normal driving cycle. Naturally, the engines are seeing high RPMs probably right up to redline. But that's not how most people, I think, drive their vehicles everyday. To your point, when compared to the factory designed induction system, if a cold air package or performance air filter reduces air restriction any amount all all, it's going to be only noticeable in the higher intake velocities.

Ok I have been wanting to post this on here to really get your thoughts on the matter. First can many of these kits really say they are a "cold air" kit? I mean especially the ones that sit open in the engine bay they should be labeled HOT AIR KITS. Now as far as the ones that have a heat shield those are the ones I want to get into. And also the factory one. First off is the stock air box not also a "cold air" intake? It blocks out the hot engine air and provides the cold air that these so called kits claim.

I think what would be good to see from these companies that claim "cod air" is to show an actual temperature of the air coming in. This way you can get an idea of who is actually providing the so called cold air and who is doing it best. Let's face it the colder the air the better it is for the engine performance wise. In my mind this is the most important aspect of a cold air kit and not the next part that I am getting into.

This next part is what gets me. All of these especially bigger companies that claim this amount of horse power. And of course that is most of the time going to be the selling point. I get that most that are wanting to upgrade their Intake is wanting performance gain but what about engine reliability? I mean these that are allowing so much more air flow as lets face it that is what is allowing more horse power is their filter really is doing not as good job filtering out contaminants therefore allowing more air flow. This has been proven for example am sure many of you have seen YT channel "project farm" He has tested this out on many of the popular air filters and K&N who obviously claim the most horsepower also allow in the most contaminants. And by a long shot. What about the reliability of the engine? I feel that is more important than say a 10HP gain but only at a RPM range that myself and most of you are never in.

Is why I want your guys/gals opinions as I feel those hp numbers can be deceiving and you are getting that at a cost of letting dirt/containiments/harmful objects in your engine.

So my Son and I were talking about this awhile back when he wanted one for his car. I asked him the same thing, how can it be called a cold air system when it sits in the hot engine bay open? So he tried to convince using his young buck lingo, and I listened for awhile and then he got one and we installed it. After we finished I asked how much was it for this? Man I couldn't believe how much it cost. So after all that we walked over to my '04 5.7 ram popped the hood and he said "what the heck is that Dad?" I sad" its my old school red neck cold air intake". I took the horn off of the air box and enlarged the hole some, ran a tube from the box down to the bumper where the fog light goes, and changed the the other tube also. I told him now thats a cold air intake. He just walked away shaking his head and mumbling "dang Dad you and your old school tricks. LOL Then I hollered to him "I have more tricks I can show you".

I bought a Volant for mine. Cheapest one I could find. The truck came with a big snorkel and conical air filter. So freaking noisy. All under the hood sucking in all of that diesel heated hot air. I tried going back to a stock air box but the one I bought off craigslist just wouldn't fit. Once it comes back from getting its new AC compressor and then tranny service I'll be putting it on. Want to wait until both of those are done so I can get an accurate understanding of how much quieter it makes it.
Probably the first time someone went to a cold air intake to make things quieter. And it will actually be cold air and make my air flow sensor operate instead of just hang there.
