Hey all. I’m new to the forum and possibly a 2017 Ram. Do any of you have any suggestions?
The Ram I’m looking at is a 1500 quad sport 4x4. Is there anything I should be looking for when I go look at it? Thanks!

The Hemi Tick (hot idle) and Broken Exhaust manifold bolts (cold start) would be the two big ones.

Make sure the motor is quiet at cold start (no ticking if so most likely broken manifold bolts).

Check to see if the motor idles quiet when hot. If it ticks run away fast. Most likely cam and lifters in its future.

I also want to put a 6’’ lift on it plus 22x12 -54 wheels and just realized that it would be nearly impossible with the air suspension that it comes with. :’(

Is this a different truck then since you wanted a lift and the one you were looking at had air suspension?

Looks nice and the color is right!
Naa it’s the same one. I went for a test drive and was sold. It drives very nice

Do you know if I can just simply remove the air suspension and replace it with a rough country 6’’?

I know they make a conversion kit to ditch the air ride system in favor of springs.

I would guess the lift alone won't have all the pieces you would need to do that but I would pose that question in the Gen 4 Lifted section.

They will probably try to talk you out of a Rough Country Lift as they are not the best quality.

Someone there will be able to guide you through it.

Yes you can get a lift kit to replace the air suspension- replacing that is a good idea anyway since the ram air suspension seems to be more headaches than it’s worth. You’ll probably need to look into alfaOBD (see the 4th gen electrical/radio section for info) in order to deprogram the air suspension from the truck
Hit up @Nick@GotExhaust for prices on lift kits before you pull the trigger on an RC lift.

You can replace the air suspension with a lift. As for suspension parts we can help. You would want a quality 6" kit like one from Zone. RC is cheap for a reason, quality is poor. Spend just a little more and go with a Zone kit. Then you want a full strut assembly or coil over for the front. Then all you need to source is some OEM rear coil spring seats.

message me if you would like a quote on a package.

Ok thanks guys. I think I’ll have to dig up some info before making any decisions. I’m actually loving the stock ride (for now anyway).

Thanks for reaching out. I’m definitely interested in getting some work done but I’m going to do some research before taking the next step. Thanks for your assistance. I’ll be touching base with you in the near future

Well I found out that I actually don’t have air suspension so I think a 6 inch lift and 22x12 - 54 should be done within the next couple of months. I’m averaging around 17 mpg atm, so I really don’t want to sacrifice too much off that. I’m thinking 35 13.5 r 22. Any thoughts from experienced individuals?
Thanks

I’m thinking 5k hids for both headlights and fogs. Possibly 3k for fogs

3k is better for fog lights(better visibility). 6000k has LESS useable light. So if you are looking for better visibility in true fog get 3k. For looks or personal preference go with whatever you like.

So like I stated when I got the truck, here is a picture of ALL the goodies. The only thing that changed from what I originally stated was the size of the tires. I chose to go with 37x13.50 as opposed to the 35’s.
Wheels are 22x12

Looks like a decent truck. You'll probably lose a couple Mpg on the tires/lift. You can go into the tks computer afterwards and change the tire size ..to remap your fuel, shift points, etc so they're correct. The software for that is AlfaOBD... ~$50 (Android) plus another $75 for the OBD wireless dongle. It lets you do about anything to the truck. Or, if you have a buddy with a Snap on scanner, he should be able to do it too.

Other than that, hope you have many happy miles!! :waytogo:

Some of the other things on these trucks which give some owners fits are: Electric Power Steering, ABS module, Exh manifolds (as was stated earlier), and cams. With 35's your front wheel bearings might live a shorter life. There seem to be a number of rear diff forum posts lately. Make sure you do the fluid checks right away. Change things as needed.

Not much you can do about any of those issues anyway, except use good synthetic oil, cross your fingers and be good to your neighbors... Some owners also get very high trouble-free miles on their trucks too, so who knows??
