I took advantage of the $99 deal for a map update. Install went well (even though is was cumbersome) but very disappointed with the limited update. A recent Garmin update that I did contained much more timely new street info than the Ram update. Will probably skip future updates.

YUP< RAM nav suks. Garmin, or run waze or Google Maps off of your phone 150% better. RAM is always way behind on the updates, just how it is.

The factory map/nav has always left much to be desired. Better off using AndroidAuto/CarPlay as the maps are current including construction, accidents, traffic back ups, etc..

BY the way
next time you get caught up in a Major traffic detour

Follow your Ram's detour map & at a traffic stop, ask another vehicle next to you if they are also detouring & ask them which GPS guidance system they are using, they will like tell you WAZE.
The Ram & Waze seem to use the same detour
I am trying to find a GPS that will give me more than one alternate route.

I got caught up in El Paso on Interstate 10 heading West

Everyone was routed off of a major 8 lane freeway onto a 4 lane city street with stop signs or lights every block or two, everyone was routed North of the freeway, i found out later, that if the detour had sent me South of the freeway, i would have seen the other freeway in town

I performed the map update what a waste of hard earned money! The mapping seemed better before the update.
Giving me wrong exits to turn onto, diverting me into the heart of Boston and NYC around traffic!
Contacted Chrysler got a run around trying to get my money back. Had to send proof of purchase and then crickets! Should get a class action lawsuit against them for ripping people off..!!

Chrysler is only a salesman for the Maps

The company that owns the Satellites is a producer
Companies like Google with the camera vehicles are a producer.

Nokia, remember the film company ?
They own a company called Navigation.com
Navigation has a sub company called HERE, also called Here WE Go

These companies buy the information from the producers
Then they compile all the information & by the time they are ready to sell it to you, the data is already over a year old.

Next time buy a Garmin GPS unit, it comes with Free Lifetime Maps & Traffic

OR you can download FREE Map apps to your phone
& try what was mentioned by other members

I do delivery for a shop. I rely on Google maps.

Some observations:
Local stuff;
Most of the time the primary routes are spot on for avoidances. Do check the other routes (the gray color on G maps)that may be slightly longer but can be so stress free. Local traffic pattern knowledge is a plus for avoidances.

Not local or area unfamiliar; Zoom the map out and do what makes sense. Check for the dark red areas before you drive off.

Remember Google gets paid to highlight places and may put you on a route, primary or detour, that includes highlighted places but may not be optimal.

Some people will use a same detour route which can clog it up. I see this a lot especially during commute time.

Most drivers are apprehensive to go a different way, which can help your situation. I.e. they will stay on the grid locked highway. I hardly ever do alternates the traffic reporters say-those alternates suggested clog up fast.

It takes a minute, but I pull out of traffic or use a stoppage to choose a route rather than do it on the fly.

Ram has the most horrible map data of any vehicle or mapping system I've ever seen. There are interstates, roadways, state highways, streets, and intersections that my RAM doesn't have. We're not talking about new things, I mean things that changed over a decade ago that are not in there. I complained to Ram, but they don't care. I literally have no idea where they are getting their map data from -- I know of no other mapping system that is so badly out of date. There's an interstate where I live that has been there for 10+ years and the entire thing is not on the map. Blows my mind.

Every other vehicle we have that is not a Ram has all of these updated roadway features. Including accurate speed limits. The Ram -- holy cow don't use it's speed limit as a guide. They are not up to date by any stretch.

Was that the 2022 update? (which is what they are offering today).

Have you looked at the actual version of the maps after the update?

My factory version is PROD2019.03.27_MY20_CW13_LUNA_CONTENT_NA Content_NA_HM18Q2.

I do prefer to do the gross navigating with the RAM for a long trip and switching to Waze to find the POI with up to date info. I did one map update on my 2014 and it was a big disappointment. These days, a tank of gas is $85 which makes the map update "less" outrageous, but I would like to know what I am getting.

The map used in Rams are provided by HERE. They suck. The 2019 Acura RDX I had before my current 19 Laramie Longhorn used HERE also for their map data and the nav in that vehicle was even worse. In my area the HERE map data closely matches Apple Maps with a few exceptions so I use both when going to unfamiliar areas or when I encounter backups.

I use a Garmin RV760 on trips. (have a ProClip mount on my Ram dash). I will preplan my routes day by day on Mapsource and upload them into my Garmin. I then have a full suite of information each travel day of our trips including 2 additional trip logs. I use the Ram GPS locally.

I have a Garmin Drive 52 with lifetime map updates. Much better than Google maps on my phone that has a 2.5" x 4" screen. The graphics are better, the language is clearer, the turn-by-turn directions are more exact.

I prefer a service that doesn't require me to wait for updates. Case in point, 2 roundabouts were installed on a route I regularly take and 2 also installed near my parents. Without more immediate updates changes like that will go undetected for months to a year or more and I have seen that in Toyota and Honda. In areas where no new work is done, older maps work. But traveling to new destinations I don't find it all that comforting to use a closed system. And I also highly dislike the routes my wife's Toyota takes us, always the longer way to get places despite every change to settings. I find similar errors in routing with other manufacturer systems.

Give me Google maps any day.

Places where new construction is going on, is like going to a town like Joplin Missouri, after those 3 in 1 tornado hit it.

I had driven through there twice before that crazy tornado
Then i drove though there within a month of it passing through, the motel that i had stayed at was damaged & boarded up, i stopped & had a conversation with the owners.
Then i met up with a Lady that was also a member of the Ram Forum with a Z, She drove me through the damaged area.
The street names were painted on the streets at each intersection.

You have to stop & ask someone where any particular place might be found.

It was just like those days when every body carried a map that would not fold right. Some times you just had to ask someone, even the Fire Station & corner gas stations for directions.

Now a days, when i am on a long drive, each night i plan my route on my laptop & jot down notes of the planned route
Then i use the maps in my 2016 Ram.
I especially like how the EVIC shows a major interchange & an arrow pointing the way you should go.
That display shows up before you see the overhead Highway signs.

If i buy a new Ram, i would want the same Infotainment system that i currently have, or the one that was in my 2009 Ram was even more user friendly

I have a 22 ram and actually love the factory nav. Here in New York it’s spot on, and takes you the proper route. I’ve always compared to google maps, Apple Maps and waze, and never had an issue. The factory nav gives you route choices just like other 2 or 3 services. Ive used it for several long trips now and will keep doing so. I will always recommend checking your rout against other apps to be sure you are going The best possible way. If not it’s not the navs fault when you get delayed or screwed up.

I will be passing through southern New York in 7 or 8 weeks

I go to Sandy Hook Connecticut

I like to cross the Tappan Zee Bridge, instead going all the way up to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge
