I’m looking for a source of a new third brake light. Everything I find available online is all LED Euro looking stuff. If you’ve followed my truck at all, you’ll know that is definitely not my thing. I want a factory piece or as close as possible to it. I only want parts on my truck that look true to the time period it was made.

I’ve already done some restoration work on my original light about 2 or 3 years ago just to make it more presentable and try to preserve it a bit longer. I wet sanded the rough oxidized surface of the plastic and sprayed it with clear coat, so it is at least shiny. Unfortunately, it is still discolored and has cracking beneath the surface. I’d sure like to replace it with something fresher looking. Has anyone found a source for these? Or something from another similarly aged truck that will retrofit to it?

Unfortunately no. They only have normal looking ones for 3rd Gens. All their 2nd Gen ones are LEDs that look nothing like stock.

I just rolled the dice and ordered a used one out of Canada. Looks a little better than mine in the pics. Hopefully the colder climate was kinder to the plastic than the heat of Texas has been on mine.

I appreciate that lead. It does look similar. Just wouldn’t have the cargo lights that shine into the bed. If this one I just ordered doesn’t work out, I might explore that option further.

I’ve been trying to decide on an aftermarket option as well because I have stains on my headliner no clue when it happened but obv the car wash or oem gasket finally crapped the bed. I’ll post this one I was looking at but have heard that the cargo leds shine up which is quite stupid considering they should be illuminating cargo area.

If your light is still in good condition, you can get new aftermarket seals for them. I bought one to put on the used light I just bought off eBay. The light I bought was from Canada. The plastic was in better shape than mine because it hasn’t taken such a beating from sunlight being up north. I had the guys in the paint shops where I work spray some clear on it and it looks really good for a piece of exterior plastic that’s over 20 years old.
