If you go into the body control module with AlpfaOBD does it see the trans is in Park?

CAN-C Bussed Inputs 2:
PRND Status: Park
Engine RPM: 0 rpm
Ignition Switch Status: RUN Position

Thanks, I will give that a try here this evening (HP sync), along with Alpha OBD but it has been a while since I’ve been in Alpha, but I will try to see what it registers. If nothing works, I will send my computer back to Russell so he can check it but he’ll be out of pocket for a bit so this will likely sit for a few weeks.

Russell did remote into my laptop to check all the settings so you know where the problem is otherwise you may be chasing a ghost for a while. Worth asking him about.

Where are you going to view this information? On the start screen I select BODY COMPUTER from the Function, but how do I read it? Under plotted data?

Figured it out, needed an update. This is what I show:

CAN-C Bussed Inputs 2:
PRND Status: Park
Engine RPM: 0 rpm
Ignition Switch Status: RUN Position

Edit: also, the resync on the HP interface did not work either, still failed to detect protocol.

Well, I'm out of ideas. :(
Its hard to believe you would have 2 dead TCM's but anything is possible.

On your ECM tune that Russell modified, assuming that is the way you went, under transmission parameters, did he enable A580 Equipped?

He did on mine and when I was scrolling through the engine data on AlfaOBD, I just happened to notice the following text:

ECU Qualification:
Engine: 5.7 Liter V8 cylinder
AC Equipped: No
AC Equipped Over Bus: Yes
Power Steering Switch: No
4 Button Integrated Cruise Control: Yes
Electro-mechanical automatic transmission (EMAT) (Getrag DCT transmission) Equipped: No
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)1 PulsesPerMile calculated from CAN: No
Police Package Equipped: No
Unleaded Gasoline Fuel: Yes
Unleaded diesel fuel: No
Manual Transmission Equipped: No
4-Speed Automatic Transmission Equipped: No
Electronic Automatic Transmission (EATX) Equipped: Yes
A580 Transmission Equipped: No

You could also check the ECU that its has the settings for then 8 speed? I'm not sure how Russell's system works with the existing system. Here is my STOCK 2014 ECU reading. I would compare the TRANS settings, under general see that is says 8 speed. Also compare the settings under SYSTEM and then the Communications tab. Humm, wont let me attatch a tune file here. If you would like it just PM me.

I'm not using my ECM since I'm running a 4 cylinder Cummins so Russell did not tune the ECU. My 2014 truck did come with the 8 speed but I'm running it as a stand alone with Russell's module. I am using the ECU to run the dash and a few other things but not tied to the trans system. If he did the ECU tune then it should be right. I'm sure you wrote this someplace but the 2013 was available with the 8 speed? Why do you need the PCS module at all? Was it just simpler then changing out the engine harness?

Ahh okay, well that makes sense.

I figured it out.

Holy. F**king. ****. It was the f**king connector. Such a rookie move. I have been back and forth and verified engagement on that connector several f**king times but had no way of verifying contact until I received the second transmission with the OE-connector/cut-wires. For whatever reason, it wasn't locked in the extended state and even after seeing this discrepancy, it took me (2) attempts to get it to connect, as the first time whenever I twisted it on the transmission, it simply pushed the connector back out, away from the pins. I finally got it locked and engaged. I now see transmission fluid temp and the shifter dial shows only P lit up instead of PRND.

Go ahead internet, flame away. I deserve every bit of it.

Bright side? At least I have a backup 8HP70, a valve body without cheese (swapped entire TCMA from 2nd transmission), and I avoided/delayed a ticking time bomb as I had no plans to drain the fluid, only top it off, until I saw the cheese.

On another note - these transmission pan gaskets, are they re-usable or a one time gig? Do I need a new pan and gasket now? I am not putting in the high dollar ZF fluid, I am going to use the Valvoline stuff, but I don't want another unnecessary leak/problem.

Congratulations! Its only a fail if you do the same thing again, this time its a learning moment. ;>)
Pan gasket is good to use.

Swapping in things that weren't there from the factory is a pretty ambitious thing these days, with the computer / CANBUS / and other things that require coding. So no judgement from me!

And, even the best of us get to laugh at ourselves. Can't say I've been there, specifically with an unseated plug; but I've been plenty of similar places where I say...jeeze, I'm a dummy.

Super glad you got it figured, rookie mistake or not!

Thank ya'll for the help along the way. I still have to torque the valve body, install the pan, get it level, fill it up, finalize the wiring, and wrap up the interior and with vacation around the corner, it may be a week or two until I get this wrapped up, but I will post back once it is all wrapped up, assuming another issue doesn't pop up first. Thanks again!

Is there anything in the 8HP70 TCM that affects the speedometer or is it all calculated from the ABS/Wheel-speed sensors? Most of the trucks that these 8 speeds comes from have the 3.21 rear gears but I have the 3.92s.

My speedometer is going haywire, jumping at least 5 MPH up and down. I've checked codes in ABS and BCM and for frayed/loose/disconnected wires at ABS/Wheel-speed sensors and nothing is jumping out at me. The codes shown are for CAN C performance and no communication with ECM but they're intermittent and last tests were completed positively.

My trans is stand alone in the truck and no speedo problems so the trans should have nothing to do with it.

Just to follow up on the speedometer, there a setting in my PCS calibration that was a 20ms delay that Russell had me change to 0 which subsequently fixed the speedometer issue.

Hey guys I completed this swap in my 09’ ram and love it. My only 2 issues now are:

1. Installing the in line oil thermostat from improved racing. Can I jut clamp off the lines, cut and install? Never put one in.

2. My remote start does not work. Russell said I need to make sure the TCM has power when the remote start kicks in. Can I just change where the power wire or accessory wire are connected or should I run another power wire to a power connection that os on when the remote start is engaged?

I am adding some digital inputs to the PCS, for an upshift and downshift. I am going to use a SPDT momentary rocker switch and setup the digital inputs on the PCS to receive momentary high (12V) signal(s) for commanded operation. I was going to buy and install the OE module on the wheel but the SGA system does not interface with that for up/down shifts.

So to add the (2) wires, (1) for each shift, I could either re-pin unused wires or add my own (receptacle uses Molex MX64 terminals). I was deathly afraid of destroying the main PCS receptacle and ruining the harness, but found the manufacturers manual, including section 5 - servicing, to be able to correctly remove and install terminals in the receptacle.

I have uploaded the manual (too large to attach) to my Google Drive and hope this helps someone else down the road.

Let us know how it goes! I'm really curious how to set these up in the PCS controller (i.e. the programming aspect of it).

I don't have the software in front of me, but if you're in advanced tuning mode, you can go to hardware setup > digital inputs and then there are a few tables you can mess around with. On the first table you can assign what you want the input to do, for instance I had one setup for manual mode so my current gear always displays on the EVIC (well up to 6th anyway), but this is where you can assign the upshift or downshift and a number of other digital inputs. Then there is a table for possibly inverting that logic, which I did for the manual mode, so I didn't have to actually trigger it, it was always on, and if it did ever receive a signal, it would toggle it off. You can assign switch type (toggle or momentary), and then the last one is I think voltage reference, assuming 5V for low and 12V for high.

It is a busy week with kid's baseball but I will post back up when I have it installed. I really need the manual shifting as when I am driving aggressively or making a pass, the transmission locks me out of 8th gear, regardless of throttle position, and it will stay in 7th until I slow below ~75 MPH and then it will shift to 8th. Tuner couldn't figure it out but I am hoping manually shifting will get it done.
