One from the manufacturer or nothing. Third-party aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Overall, warranties (even from the manufacturer) are a bad buy since the companies are in it to make money. That being said, in 2014 I bought a Lifetime Maxcare for $2300 and am up to about $8,000 and counting in benefit. The real benefit to me has been staying out of the showroom and being able to keep my truck without fearing a big ticket repair.

Looking into my crystal ball I see 25 pages of financial advice, recommendations for investments and places to put the money instead of into a warranty. Probably a few insults and spats along the way too!

IMO biggest reason for the warranty is the dreaded hemi tick due to lifter/cam. For that sole purpose it would be worth it. Of course read the fine print make sure that would be covered should it happen. If not like mtofell said not worth the paper it is written on.

With my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI powered
I had the Mopar Lifetime Extended Warranty
Counting Parts & Labor for Repairs, i came out ahead of the insurance. I sold it in 2016

On my 2016 Ram eco-diesel, i bought the Extended warranty, which i believe is 7 years. i am happy to say has had no issues, except Recalls

On my last truck I had over 10k in repairs done at no cost to me over the span of 100k miles, the warranty cost $1600. It was through the lender though so Im looking for another decent deal.

Whats everyone using for extened warranty if any?
I have RAM's MaxCare and as far as I am concerned, it is the only one worth it. I have had MaxCare on my 2013, it paid for itself, I have in on my 2015 (again paid for itself), and on my 2022. Keep in mind the powertrain warranty is 5 years and 60K miles for gas and 100K miles for diesel. The powertrain isn't my worry, all the issues I've had were with body electronics.

My 2013 had a failed body computer, $2,200 repair bill. MaxCare covered it plus a loaner vehicle.
My 2015 rear air leveling suspension pump and sensor failed. $1,980 to repair.

Of all the years (since 1972) I've been buying vehicles, I have never had a powertrain or driveline failure, it has always been something that fell under the 3-year 36,000-mile warranty.

I also purchased the Mopar Lifetime MaxCare plan. Expires October 18, 2100 or 999,999 miles which ever comes first. For $3K (at the time I bought it in 2017), IMO, it was a steal. Already used twice to replace the 8.4 Touchscreen dash unit as well as the manifold for the 4-corner air suspension.
Unfortunately, Chrysler, FCA, Stellantis, whatever, no longer offers lifetime plans.

Previous to my 2019 Ram, I always did my own repairs. I could handle most everything. And my luck with repair shops is they screw it up half the time and over charge me the rest of the time. My repair record is much better than %50. And I almost never overcharge my self.

Fast forward to the Ram. It is full of electronic crap!! I am no stranger to lectric. But coupled with the cumbersome conditions of working on and under a truck. At my age. Just too much.

I went with Max Care from Ziegler.

Good luck.

i think there is also a value when you sell your truck as a buyer will be more likely to pay top dollar for a vehicle that has been warranted as it is more likely any major after sale repairs were done.

Yeah, I've been burned by aftermarket warranties a couple times. Purchased a "powertrain warranty" on the wife's '14 Chrysler 300. When we had a oil leak issue with the cooler was told it wasn't covered.
Correct me if I'm wrong; isn't the engine the heart of the powertrain?

Yep, that's EXACTLY what they do - bury exclusions in the fine print so essentially nothing is really covered. I had a buddy with a similar thing on the tranny. Shop said it was an electronics failure that caused the mechanical failure and electronics inside the tranny were excluded. WTF? The skeptic in me suspects the shops on "the list" that you must take the vehicle to get kickbacks or some compensation to protect the warranty companies.

Yeah, when we bought the car and they offered the powertrain warranty I asked a bunch of question. "It covers all powertrain issues correct? Anything wrong with engine, transmission, diff, driveshaft etc., no exclusion?" "Absolutely! It cover the complete powertrain!" Said the salesman. Truth was he had no idea. It is just his job to push these warranties on car buyers.

I wanted to say that, but you beat me to it.......:p

OP, check with Ziegler, ChryslerWarrantyDirect (I forget which CDJR dealer that is), or Granger CDJR. They all have the genuine Mopar Extended Warranty at better prices than your local dealer. I always buy the manfacturers these days for all of the electronis in the new vehicles. All seem to have the mechanics down pat, but one toasted computer in these vehicles ain't cheap. :)

I have never bought extended warranty on any vehicle in the last 50 years. I did most of my own repairs and in many vehicles that in aggregate ran over millions of miles I never replaced a transmission or motor and never had any really expensive repairs on a wide variety of makes and models. Many went 250,000+ miles before I sold them.

After 2 years and 18,000 miles I did buy the $2,800 dollar, 7 year bumper to bumper extended warranty for the 2020 Grande Cherokee Summit my wife drives. Between the air suspension, , U Connect, electronics and the hemi, I am thinking this is a decent bet, and I do financial advice professionally. We shall see if i do that for the 2021 2500 Laramìe after I have run it for 2 years.

CarShield is what I have since early 2021. Was $2,200 with $100 deductible for basically bumper to bumper coverage for 4year/75k miles. Jan/Feb this year my transmission went out, had the free tow covered by CarShield to a dealer, then came to find out, transmission couldn't be fixed, so it was replaced. All covered by my warranty.

I've owned an 08 Patriot, a 15 Compass, and currently own a 15 Ram 1500 RCSB 5.7 4x4. I've gotten 2 new engines and a transmission out of Chrysler for each of the jeeps under warranty. The Patriot jad 248k when the 2.4 let go and the compass had about 165k when she got an internal engine block crack. I've also got a new fuel pump in the ram as well as a new TIPM and some coolant system work. The compass has also received a new PCM new wheel bearings, a new wiring harness. Everything covered. But I have had to pay for a main harness in the compass and a PCM and associated harness in the ram (currently in the shop) because Chrysler said it was due to corrosion and they will not cover corrosion created problems. Both parts are clearly covered by the contract and it doesn't mention corrosion. But the wiggle room language in the back says Chrysler will not be responsible for "design flaws". I call it weasel room language. In other words they're not responsible for the design flaws that they designed. Just wondering how I go about suing them?

park your screwed up vehicle, the one that the dealer will not fix
in the street right in front of sales building with a list of stuff that they refuse to fix
DO NOT EXAGGERATE even a little bit, do not defame them, just state facts
Post it in your local paper, like a PennySaver
