I had my evap system on my 2011 4.7 1500 smoke tested today after having a code for a small leak pop up for over 6 months. The test revealed that the hose from the gas tank to the solenoid is cracked. They quoted over $200 for the hose and labor and said that they would not be able to get the hose in for about 5 days from the dealer.
I leave on Monday to move back to PA. Are there any other options for the hose other than the dealer? And can it be replaced with a hose of the right inner diameter?

I'd just drive it and get it fixed after I get there. If it's been that way for 6 months another couple days and the mileage won't really matter in the big scheme of things.

I don't see why not.
That's exactly what I ended up doing.

I would have except the hose was only being held on to the connector via electrical tape. The hose had cracked at both ends and came off in my hand.

I'd say you found the problem then.

Get you some "neoprene" hose, proper size from Auto Center/Parts store wherever and attach appropriately. Make sure hose is oil/fuel resistant, not cheap $.39 a foot hose from Walmart, etc.,.

Yep. I called the auto shop that smoked it and the tech taped it so it would stay together for a few days. But now it has a permanent fix.

But today I had the gaa cap message come on yesterday. So today I replaced the cap as well and it's still coming on. I hope it will clear after running the truck for a while.

The hose I got is for fuel lines.

The gas cap light just means an evap leak. The leak could be anywhere in the evap system.

The purge valves like to get stuck and you'll get the P0456 code. To check it, carefully remove it (try not to bang it or you'll free up the stuck valve). Then try to blow by mouth to see if air passes through the valve. If it does allow air to go through it, it is stuck and is bad. Buy a new one.

It has been my experience & what you will find online is that
It may take several Ignition Cycles to clear that Code

There may be nothing wrong with your vehicle now

The evap monitors run a two part test.First a few driving peramiters need to be met, which I have found several different answers for and the second is when the truck is off. These tests must fail two times in a row to trigger the cel and pass twice in a row to clear the cel.At least that is the info I found when researching this problem.I hope your cel dissapears.Evap codes can be a be-itch.Good luck.

Not sure how our trucks do it but my wife previous car, 2007 Pacifica, would only run the evap test when fuel level was above 1/4 tank to 3/4 full so if you fill it and clear the code it shouldn't register any new faults so if it does, something else, maybe electrical could be causing it.

Yes,there has to be a certian amount of gas in the tank but some said 1/4 some said 1/2 tank for test to run. Many different answers on the driving parameters as well.I guess just make sure you have over 1/2 tank and drive as normal for a couple of days.

While on a quick drive yesterday with my tank just over 3/4 full the gas cap message turned off and when I pulled up stored codes the code for the small evap leak was gone.

The Evap system just has to be sealed so in theory you could replace that entire plastic hose with fuel line and it would function normally.
