Love some grits myself! Had some with bacon this morning. I bet some of these guys don’t know what grits are!
Brings me back to my military days .
You could tell who was from south and north. Folks from the south would put salt in their grits. Northerners like myself would use sugar.

More like a mouse on 'roids, lol.

Fair enough on the off-track stuff - I'm one of the guilty ones! After this I'll shut up!

Can't let this one totally slide though! If a Z/28 302 is a mouse on 'roids then the following must be "super mice":

1970 Z/28 350 LT1
L76 and L84 327's plus not to mention even the hydraulic cam L79 which was a real sleeper too.

Those L76 (4BBL) and L84 (injected) 327's were weapons. They are basically the same thing as a Z/28 302 but longer stroke. Same head design, same cam and made massive power. They were factory rated up to 375hp with ramshorn exhaust manifolds. In a lightweight Corvette they were true weapons. As a laugh watch this drag race between two big blocks. The camera car in front is an L84 Corvette, they needed that to stay in front of the two whales that are both capable of low to mid 14s 1/4 mile times.

Those engines were pre pollution control cars. I believe the Z28 had all the new controls and used unleaded gas, or they weren’t street legal. May have been the same engine, but had mandated “extras”. Enjoyed the video btw. Brought back some memories.

After discussing whatever particular car or engine is of interest to ya, throw in a line mentioning what brand/type of oil you used in said vehicle...then you should be safe in this thread...lol!

Just to make this legal, there wasn't much in the way of synthetic oil back then. They probably used mineral oil....Sorry, couldn't help myself! Is there a shooting teh breeze section in these forums?

Unleaded engines came into being for 1971 model year for most manufacturers ready for ULP in 1972. All the big compression engines basically finished in 1970 model year although some hang on for a short while like Pontiac from memory. The initial anti-pollution stuff came into being for California in 1967, and then across the board in 1968 - that is the A.I.R and similar stuff you can see on the scan in post 45092. If you look hard enough you can see different engine and carby specs for California in 1967 basically for idle and evaporative emissions then they align in 1968. The 1967 Z28 was thus pre-emissions for everywhere except California. the 1968-1970 Z28 should be the same across the board.
Great video. You can see the twin black lines from the 'vette's tyres on every gear change.

Wow, I didn't realize I was opening a can of worms when I mentioned about getting back on the subject of synthetic oil. I apologize to anyone who took offense to it. Yes, I'm guilty as well by stating a fact on the Lil Express trucks. I enjoy reading this thread, and I guess getting off topic on occasion is part of the whole forum. Okay, consider me "spanked".

On another forum I admin/moderate there is an "Off Topic Lounge" section for anyone to BS about whatever they want. Just something to think about....

Best regards,

I'll put in my two cents:

I've been on this thread since 2020 and made my fair contributions, including some scientific discussions about lubricants. I even debated with @Burla about the correlation of Red Line, Lubeguard, and preventing HEMI lifter failures. That debate resulted in arguments and some unpleasant exchanges. Still, it's almost the only thread I visit here because I know some guys here enjoy their company.

That being said, I believe that this thread, being as long and convoluted as it is, has outlived its usefulness. I'm saying that because it's hard to make any sense of it except for those who participated for a long time in this discussion.

Now, I would be sad to see this thread closed. However, I believe that as we advance, it would be a good idea to start new threads about specific lubrication issues to keep the information fresh and relevant. It would certainly make life easier for new members looking to get more information on the subject.

Time to get back on topic and start a homer club number 2, that was definitely on point. A synthetic oil club, the good ol days.

I'm semi retired, we need a treasurer, a president and a ceo, and someone to hand out avatars. Yawll have at it.

Isnt the other thread a cliff notes of this thread? The synthetic oil thread of 2017 stands at only 115 pages or so. If this thread is to scary someone can go to that thread smiley created because the poll in this thread left out popular choices like redline and pennzoil. For those of you who want to only discuss synthetic oil and nothing else like filters or oil clubs, I might suggest that thread is the place you should be. Last I checked this thread is a voluntary read and still popular among folks at ram forum. Plus that thread included the oils left out by the OP of this thread, thanks smiley for doing that. So that thread is in sticky section and is waiting for oil and only oil discussion.

Been awhile since I posted in here, getting ready to do my first oil change on my wagon.
10-40 RP filter and 5w40 Redline.
Question is Euro 5w40 ? Is this any different ?
Question 7 quarts ?
Think I should start putting lubeguard in it already?
I will be around 1500 miles once I get it done.
