I am trying to put together a budget sub setup for my truck. I am seeing a lot of wedge subs for sale used and i am wondering if they will fit behind the rear seat of a 2016 ram 1500 crew cab. What dimensions will fit if so? Thanks!

It "might" but if you aren't concerned with the under seat storage on the passenger side you could by the factory Alpine sub and swap the sub for a better one.

thx,
DG

Package. 8.4 radio with the 9 speaker Alpine system. Sub enclosure fits under passenger rear seat. Conversely, Kicker makes a sub upgrade that goes under the drivers side rear. I have both in my truck.

I actually just did a sub. Install bought a bbox of Amazon, and a kicker 10 inch. Sounds great all in all under 350

Just spend a little more and get the fox box. If you go with a cheap box you will be paying twice as you'll be replacing it in short time as they sound like crap. Underseat would be the best choice if you can sacrifice a tiny bit of storage.

Does this interfere with the fold down platforms under the seats or vice versa, the platform interfere with the sub? I use that more than my rear seats. The dogs and gear go in the back on that platform.

I have a crew cab with the stock alpine under seat subwoofer, fold out platforms and the rear seat folding mod.
The stock sub fits under the fold out platforms without issue. I don't know if an aftermarket one would fit- I guess it would as long as it does not come above the lip of the under seat storage.
My dog isnt a huge fan of laying on the platform over the sub though- I imagine that type of vibration would be wildly unsettling for a dog- not to mention I wouldn't want to deal with that myself for any amount of time
If you look at the post from @SitKneelBend the stock sub sits below the level of the hole so the folding platform would fit (as evidenced by having both in my truck) but the driver side kicker sub he has sits on top of that hole so the fold out platform would not work with that side

You may be able to fit one- but you would likely have to build your own sub box and use a shallow mount sub. I'm not in a position to go measure right now but the clearance behind the seat is roughly 6-7" at the base of the seat and it tapers to no clearance by the time you're 1/2 way up the back so you would be looking at a sub box that is the entire length of the cab for adequate air space for a single sub, or maaayyybe 2 subs if you can get the volume right.
On another note- my 2003 F250 I was able to take the bracket off of the rear bench seat and spin it around (back to front) and that moved the seat an extra 3-4 inches away from the rear of the cab so I was able to build a custom sub box to fit back there for a full depth subwoofer. May be worth looking at your seat brackets to see if that is an option on these rams

I would probably put an inline cut off switch. Thats what I did on my jeep when I had the dogs in the back. Thanks for the info. I'll dig around and see if I can find a stock sub or get another low profile fosgate in a box. They also have 4" thick memory foam beds, so they aren't directly on the platform.

LOL! I’ve only had that panel flipped up once, and totally forgot that sub was under there. Guess I need to deep clean my cab more often…
best,
