Interesting.... pretty light on specifics. Just says "enter the rear cabin." I wonder if they are talking about the famous 3rd brake light leak? If so that seems to be HDs as well as 1500s and my 2014 leaked shortly after I bought it and the suit is just 2016 on.

I know this was a well known issue with Fords spanning several generations of trucks.

Something tells me this is not the third stop lamp problem, at least by itself. The description, although vague on details, seems to imply major mold and electrical issues. I don't associate any of that with the third brake lamp or even the cracked rear window frames.

There was also water intrusion caused by the back cab vents on some trucks.
BTW, my '17 3500 leaked in the back even after they "fixed" the brake light .

I have a 2017 3500 crew cab that has leaked everywhere, third brake light, vents and the sliding window. Absolute pain in the rear to fix, but got it done.

Ok Folks. I have had this problem with the 3rd brake light and one of the rear vents leaking. It took months to dry out after replacing the faulty parts. I also had to tear out the passenger seat and rear seats. I had 2 inches of water in one of the cubbys as well as a lot of rusty seat bolts. Water will migrate to every nook and cranny of the cab and will cause corrosion in the wiring harnesses which lay on the floor. Ask me how I know. Water WILL cause major damage if left alone. I did not have mold but it took the carpets 6 weeks to dry because it was winter. I had to raise them off the floor. If this happens to you you will be pissed I can assure you. I went without my truck for almost 2 months to be sure the problem was solved. You had better associate 3rd brake light leak with mold and electrical issues because it is definitely the cause in many cases.
I hope she wins the lawsuit.
It will never happen here in Canada because our consumer laws are too weak and our courts have a different approach to litigation. My truck is a 2014 Ecodiesel SLT with 103000 kms. which is only 64000 miles.

I posted a link to a ten buck fix to the 3rd brake light issue that any diyer can do.

There is a lot of info on their page.

I replaced my whole light but will be ordering this seal as a backup.

It needs to go back further than 2016. My 2011 had the leak, and I know I have seen other posts on here from owners of trucks the same vintage as mine with that problem. I ordered a replacement gasket from Amazon that kept being put on back order, so I eventually just ordered a new third brake light. The gasket that came with that one is considerably thicker than the original and I haven't had a leak since putting it in.

I have a 2016 with a water leak. I got the Detroit gasket and when I put it on my 3rd brake light I noticed that it wasn't the gasket, it was the light itself. The light had warped to the point that I had to order a whole new assembly. The new assembly is a couple revisions newer than the light that came out.
I still noticed water, I don't know if the third brake light was the total problem, so I also changed the cab exhaust vents with the updated parts.
I will say, however, that the better third brake lights on a lot of other trucks and SUVs seem to be held in place with four screws instead of two. This, I believe, would have saved my third brake light from warping. I may tinker with the old one to see if I can somehow add a few screws in the middle somewhere to make it more rigid and less prone to warping.

Good Evening All, going to through in a few cents of my opinion. First off mdc, extra screws are a futile attempt, there is nothing behind the light to screw into and that is if you don't actually destroy the light itself while attempting this.
Second the cause of the 3rd brake light warping is the use of the old style incandescent light bulbs. Think about this, heavy stop and go traffic, or traffic jam and you are staying on the brake pedal causing the brake lights to stay illuminated, thus causing those little light bulbs to create a whole lot of freaking heat. That constant heat builds up inside that tiny inclosed area and ...plastic light warps, hello leak.
I changed mine to LED bulbs nice and cool no heat, no warp, no leak.
Also filled the 1/4 inch gap between the cab and light with black ultra RTV silicone. Black to match paint.
Just my few cents worth of my opinion.

I realize that you would have to fabricate somekind of mount behind the third brake lite, probably with some rivets and nutserts. i didn't look at the old light closely, just threw it in the new box and tossed it aside for some later look. I don't have that kind of time to invest in it at the moment. It is cheap enough to just replace again in the future. I will take your advice, however, and see if I can get some LEDs. My gap was pretty sizable also. I would rather do that before it warps again than put extra silicone to cover the warping. Thanks again

I hate annoying problems like anyone else, but dang I would hate to be a manufacturer right now. Problem is, if you don't make a PERFECT vehicle that lasts 500,000 miles without a single part having an issue you get SUED.

I have to wonder how many vehicle buyers do PERFECT work 100% of the time in their own occupation?

Yes, perfection is impossible. But knowing about a widespread issue spanning a dozen years without a solid fix? That's not a "no one is perfect" issue. That's a "let's investigate & improve the design" issue that was never successful and is still a problem today.
It's also not just an "annoying problem". It's not easy to detect and slowly causes damage, odor and mold issues.
