Alright boys,

I am jumping into the teardown this weekend. I am not a mechanic by trade but am mechanically inclined.

The plan is to get the valve covers off just to verify lifter failure (I am 99% sure it is lifter b/c of noise and misfire), then proceed to removing fan, rad, and timing cover.

Hope yall are standing by if I run into any issues. This forum has singlehandedly given me the confidence to tackle this on my own. Thanks yall!

If you haven't read through Kurtis's howto,it's well worth reading.

Just follow the MMX YouTube video to a T, and get the proper tools.

So, started to pull **** to get to valve covers...got coil packs out but don't quite see how I have the room to pull it off without removing alternator and ****. Got frustrated and paused...

Just going for it. Decided to just pull fan clutch, shroud and radiator and as of right now the radiator is the last thing. I have to look and read up on how to handle what appears to be either the condenser, or trans cooler? Going through the guides now.

If your truck uses the newer gold plated R-1234yf,you'll want to leave the condensor hooked up,and pivoted out of the way,or have the A/C system evacuated,as the stuff is expensive as hell to have it recharged

Been there done that the A/C compressor uses three studs to mount it one in block and two in timing cover the two in front will have to be removed but just take the nut off back one and let Compressor rest as seen in my picture also It may be easier to remove inner fenders it helped with Exhaust manifold to Pipe Bolts and do not worry about trying to remove manifolds from head in truck leave em on there just remove the two from pipe pull heads and manifold as one unit

Anyone got a quick tip on removing fuel line? If I remove and its pressurized, is that a problem? Will the standard fuel disconnect tool work (I have the metal one thats like pliers with different sizes).

FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE
  1. Open the Power Distribution Center (PDC) by removing the top cover.
  1. Remove PDC fuse F01.
  1. Start and run the engine until it stalls.
  1. Attempt restarts until the engine will no longer fire.
  1. Switch off the ignition key.

Dusty

Ummm...I already disconnected driver side coil plugs, rad hoses and a few other connectors...do I have to backtrack to do this or can I just hook up coils, pull fuse, and turn it over?

Ah. Okay. There is a fuel line quick disconnect fitting on the left side of the engine. This line attaches directly to the left fuel rail.

As jws123 suggested, as you are disconnecting the fitting from the fuel rail, have a large cloth ready to cover the fuel that will spray out of the line when the fitting is released. I'm not sure how much residual fuel pressure will be, but I would recommend wearing safety goggles.

Dusty
