So, I've got a 2022 Ram 2500 Limited with a 6.7 in it and about 1200 miles. Since day 1 it Seems like when the A/C in on the fan clutch will be on a lot. Dealer says everything is operating fine but the other day a coworker got his 2022 2500 (same truck as me but red) and his fan doesn't come on hardly at all. Just for a couple seconds after he starts moving when leaving a red light. Mine will stay on up to highway speeds and like lot of people it sounds like a freight train. After looking thru, the threads it seems like the problem is hit or miss (some peoples trucks do it and some don't). My questions for the group are:

1. Would it be worth paying out of pocket for a new clutch just to see if it helped? I have a 10yr/100000 mile Zurich warranty. Not sure if I could get them to cover it.

2. Are there any after market fan clutches that work better?

3. Has anyone swapped one out and had it run less frequently?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mine kicks in quite a bit. Everything works fine. Run with it.

I’m not understanding the question exactly.

What do you think a clutch fan is ?

Why should it not engage the if your A/C is on ?

I understand things like this can be aggravating, but don't overthink it. Like others have said just drive 'er. If it breaks, then use your warranty. Enjoy your new Ram.

Is your mpg about the same as your buddy's?

Clutch fan (on a gas engine) doesn't engage that often under normal conditions - even with AC on.
I am not familiar with the cummins setup though.

If your coworker will let you drive his truck, see if the power feels the same.

A clutch fan coming on and staying on will cost power and mpg - at least on a gas motor.

I haven't had good luck with aftermarket clutches.

It is possible that yours will improve with age as the truck gets more miles on it since it is brand new. Maybe wait and see if it is still doing it at 5000 miles or your first oil change.

At start up and cooler temperatures the clutch is not engaged after the fluid inside the clutch is heated then the “clutch” engages and the fluid allows the cooling fan to turn at higher RPM’s to induce greater cooling effect.

Because the design of the electric heated fluid is similar to a self heated viscus clutch fan I believe the only advantage of having the electric version is that it engages earlier but as a fail safe as long as the fluid is present will engage without assistance from it’s electrical heating element.

I think the terminology of when the fan is engaged or not engaged differs from the adjective disengaged which can be confusing.

Knowing the resistance or Ohm’s of the heating element should be easy to test across the contact points of it’s connector.

Ram Cares opinion is always a dealership solution in which gives the option of advising you to trade to a different vehicle. …

There is no electrical connector on a thermal fan clutch, most of them use a bi-metallic spring to sense temperature, some are non-thermal, use fluid to disengage at higher speeds. Ohm's has nothing to do with it.

ditto and on my 2020 6.4 with ~22000 miles mine just started coming on and it never used to, first start of the morning pulling out of the driveway and onto the highway it sounds like a jet engine, heck even my wife was like are you stuck in 1st gear or something....

All one has to do is look up the part number in a catalog and find the answer themselves

I looked it up on rockauto no picture (just the fan)
I found #9 68194962AA on Mopar Parts Giant
I also found the discontinued (obsolete) part number 68359842AD

5D6BB91C-5878-4FE4-B5FA-C9AD2DCC1042.jpeg0D2EE770-6686-487F-9A90-D6F2385BB362.jpeg

Discontinued (Obsolete) means they replaced the part or changed its number designation or both.
It could be a duplicate part was issued a different number and the original part number was revised as in the 2012 68155609AB

Or changed for 68194962AA

I don't know jack about the Cummins as I stated, that's why I asked you if it did, I wasn't doubting you it was an honest question.

Could the OP's be getting power when it shouldn't be?
I honestly think, it is because it just isn't broken in yet.

Hard part is getting them to warranty it even though they all know it should start slipping within a minute or two.

My 5.7 is like that for 30 secs to 1 minute then gets quiet. Well until I am stuck at a long redlight in 90+ heat with the AC on, then it might engage for a few hundred yards or so and back to quiet.

Just bought a new Gen5 2500 with the cummins. Compared to my Gen4 cummins equipped truck the fan noise on the 2022 is a lot more often, and is quite noticeable. I will admit the engine itself in the 2022 is much quieter over all., but that cooling fan noise is pretty loud and seems to be almost constant. Of course its summer here currently so the ambient temps are in the high 80, to 90s. So the fan should be running more, but this is I think beyond noisy. And yes there is an electrical connection on the fans hub assembly with a pigtail and wiring.
