To clarify what I said before. If you press the minus button while in 8th gear, You'll see a number come up in the gauge cluster display showing which gear the trans is limited to (8). When 8 is displayed the transmission will shift through all gears normally, but MDS will be disabled. If you aren't yet in 8th, but you are in D, press the minus button, then press the plus button until the gear indicator in the gauge cluster screen displays "8". The displayed number indicates the highest gear the transmission will shift into. Pressing the plus button when "8" is displayed will re-enable MDS. This little ritual will need to be repeated every time you shift into D to keep MDS inactive.@mikeru Have a question Mike. My first ever Ram 1500 with the 5.7L no-e is waiting to be built. Owning a GM car with the 4 cyl deactivation I've learned to hate that chit. To much shaking, and stuttering from the engine. I have a Range Technology MDS eliminator plugged into the OBD port to stop that, and it's great. So, I'm guessing I'm not going to like it in the 5.7 either. With that said my question is, will pushing the + button on the gear selector while the tranny is in 8th gear allow the tranny to change all the up to 8th as you drive, and stop the cylinder deactivation crap?
Range doesn't have a disabler for the 5.7L at this point. I have emailed then to see if they are working on one. I'll update when I hear from them.
And unfortunately no one makes a device like you had on your GM. If it's any consolation to you, I owned two GM trucks with cylinder deactivation, and Ram's MDS seems to be much less noticeable than the version GM uses. But if you upgrade to a louder exhaust it will be more noticeable when the engine goes into 4 cylinder mode.
